EMPLOYMENT TYPE

Regular FT – 35 hours/week


SALARY

$37,000 to $40,000, annually

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Puerto Rico Evacuee Assistance Program (PREA) was established to assistant individuals and families who evacuated Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the 2017 Hurricane Maria. The Housing Specialist will work with those affected to relocate them into permanent housing. He/she will:

  • Conduct on-the-ground outreach to identify new housing resources
  • Develop and maintain linkages with brokers, landlords, real estate companies, and management offices
  • Accompany clients to apartment viewings
  • Conduct housing inspections for clients who have been approved for apartments
  • Assist clients with completing housing applications
  • Work closely with Case Managers to expedite placements and make recommendations for successful moves
  • Other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor. 

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Disaster Case Management experience a Plus
  • A commitment to social justice and experience working for non-profit organizations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to advocate
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team
  • People personally affected by Hurricane Maria strongly encouraged to apply
