The Placement Advisor conducts research and advises on academic and training programs that best match sponsored international student study goals and sponsoring program priorities. The Placement Advisor applies for and secures admission and financial aid on grantees’ behalf and place in appropriate study programs.


Essential Functions:

  • Conducts technical review of all submitted applications to ensure they meet program requirements. Conducts research for students’ targeted fields of study identifying suitable academic programs matching student study goals and sponsor priorities. Advises students on strongest options, creates academic submission plans, manages application documents and submissions ensuring that student documents meet school and university requirements.
  • Serves as a key resource on assigned fields of study and as IIE’s primary contact with academic departments, admissions, and financial aid offices.
  • Serves as student and sponsor advocate; handles all correspondence between schools and students responding to general and specific questions, inquiries and correspondence and troubleshoot issues; Seeks admission and funding; announces admission decisions and suggests final placements that will further interests of students and sponsor goals.
  • Maintains field, admission and financial data and monitor accuracy. Generates admission reports for various audiences, including schools and sponsors. Identifies non-university sources of cost-sharing to supplement university cost-sharing.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in order to apply a working knowledge of the theories and principles in a specialized field or work discipline.
  • Requires at least two years of related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of U.S. and International higher education system and admissions process, a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, policy and procedure manuals and write complex reports and correspondence.
  • Previous experience working with an extranet, web, database software, and social media networks preferred.

Work Conditions & Physical Demands

Essential functions are performed in a general office setting with low noise.
