Seeking a highly motivated, organized, pleasant, and enthusiastic individual to join Red Hen Press as Development Assistant, managing the Writing in the Schools program (WITS), a community engagement program that pairs professional poets with underserved classrooms to offer free poetry writing workshops to grades 4–12 and assisting with all aspects of fundraising for the organization.

This is a 32-hour / week position. 

Hours: Monday through Thursday 9-5:30 pm

Compensation: $18 / hour

Benefits: Health/Vision/Dental 


Primary Responsibilities

-Writing foundation and government grant proposals and reports

-Maintaining the grants calendar and keeping up with all deadlines

-Recruiting WITS Instructing Poets

-Partnering with local schools

-Coordinating with host teachers and WITS teachers

-Scheduling workshops

-Collecting all contracts, lesson plans, surveys, and poems from teachers before, during, and after the term.

-Working with the Production team to lay out the WITS Anthology

-Managing small teams of interns

-Collecting and organizing data from surveys to fulfill proposals and reports.


Required Qualifications:

-         Minimum Bachelor’s degree

-         Excellent written and verbal communication

-         Grant writing minimum of two years of experience including foundation and government grants

-         Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

-         Self-starter

-         Willing and able to report to work in person to our offices in Pasadena, CA and remotely as needed.


Desired Qualifications:

-         Managerial experience

-         Elementary through 12th grade teaching or administrative experience

-         Video editing experience

-         Social Media management

-         Proficient in Design, specifically in typesetting/creating text layout

-         Proficiency with SalesForce for Non-Profit
