We are hiring a Program & Community Coordinator to join our Programs team to help improve outcomes for all adolescents and young adults living with cancer. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, and lots of energy and passion, we want to hear from you.

Stupid Cancer is the leader in adolescent and young adult cancer advocacy, support, and education. Founded in 2007, Stupid Cancer has spent more than a decade ending isolation, building community, providing education, and redefining quality-of-life for this community. Our mission is to empower those impacted by young adult cancer for the adolescent and young adult cancer community.

The Program & Community Coordinator position is based in Stupid Cancer's New York City headquarters. We are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 restrictions and will be evaluating a return to our office as the situation changes.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program & Community Coordinator will share administration duties for Stupid Cancer and provide general program support and coordination of Meetups, CancerCon, volunteer management and community engagement. The Program & Community Coordinator is the first touchpoint for all community members with the organization and must exemplify the ethos of Stupid Cancer as well as present a positive initial experience for all

interactions.


RESPONSIBILITIES

General Organizational support

  • First point of contact for the organization and must be able to answer general questions and properly route calls/emails to staff members
  • Support organizational efforts to galvanize the AYA community
  • Supply and shipping management (postcards, conference supplies, etc.

Programs

  • Assist in the planning and execution of all Stupid Cancer programs, including administrative and reporting duties for all programs
  • Together with the Director of Development and Program team – create and implement program impact and metrics measurements
  • Reporting: Review and provide data to be included in status and post-event reports
  • Manage Program Supplies
  • Serve as point of contact for program attendee questions and requests
  • Assist the Program Manager in recruiting methods for new program attendees
  • Creation and dissemination of new program materials
  • Together with the Program Manager, provide recommendations for programmatic growth
  • Other duties as necessary

 Community Engagement

  • Community Listening
  • With support of Communication and Marketing Associate, monitor social media engagement and report on concerns/trends expressed by community
  • Identify opportunities to better engage underrepresented community members in all programs
  • Develop and foster relationships with active community members
  • Hospital and Healthcare Provider outreach
  • identify potential partners and AYA program
  • reengage lapsed partners and develop opportunities for engagement
  • Volunteer Management
  • Recruit and maintain volunteers
  • Create opportunities for volunteers to engage with Stupid Cancer
  • Train and support volunteers based on their volunteer engagement
  • Assist in the management of volunteers (including but not limited to CancerCon, Summits, Meetups, partner conferences.)
  • Track volunteers
  • Build out Stupid Cancer Volunteer training programs


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four-year college degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • A minimum two years of related professional experience
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided
  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead

MUST HAVE SKILLS

  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills (email, phone, and face-to-face)
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative on new tasks
  • Computer experience with the ability to learn new applications and programs quickly
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Interest in issues affecting adolescent and young adult cancer survivors and their families
