The Director of Clinic Operations is responsible for the operational oversight of all primary care clinics and satellite service sites and serves as the dyad partner for department directors. This role works closely with the Chief Operations Officer, clinic leadership, system support services and external partners to assure service standardization and optimization, quality outcomes, employee well-being, and financial management utilizing continuous process improvement models to achieve strategic objectives.  Ensures that patients receive excellent customer service and operations are conducted in support of the Patient-Centered Medical Home Model.  This role serves as a mentor and coach for direct reports and supports the development of staff.


  • Partner with COO, clinic leadership dyads, and department directors to establish and implement the most effective short and long-term plans to meet clinical, strategic and financial targets.
  • Oversight of primary care operations to include an understanding of roles, workflows, clinic schedule, and support staffing coverage to maintain access to care for patients during defined hours of operation.
  • In conjunction with clinic leadership, continually assess and adjust patient flow and practice processes for increased efficiencies and access to care for patients.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and standardization utilizing the change and process improvement methods adopted by the organization and coaching others on these tools and processes. 
  • Prioritize process improvement initiatives utilizing key process indicators, balanced scorecard targets, and strategic plan goals. Contribute to the development of policy, procedure, workflow, and other documentation to support sustainment of clinic process improvement efforts.

Skills and Knowledge

Working knowledge and experience of clinical operations and practical experience with quality and service initiatives. Ability to train and teach staff.  Experience working on computers; typing speed of at least 40 WPM. Ability to work with electronic health record and practice management software. Ability to manage multiple tasks.  Knowledge of health insurance plans and value-based reimbursement methodologies.  Knowledge of medical coding, both ICD-9 and CPT. Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and practice. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of personnel management and labor law.  Ability to work independently and to use good judgment. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with co-workers.

Education, Certification and Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in related field. LEAN, process improvement or project management certifications preferred. Clinical licensure is preferred.
