Finance Coordinator Position

The Heinrich Böll Foundation North America is accepting applications for the position of Finance Coordinator. We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual with an interest in green policy issues. The position is full-time and will start as soon as possible.


About the Heinrich Böll Foundation

The Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung (hbs) is a political foundation affiliated with the German Green Party. We act as a catalyst for green visions and projects, a think tank for policy reform, and an international network. Hbs seeks to advance democracy and human rights, protect the environment and climate, and promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts. We place particular emphasis on gender democracy, meaning social emancipation and equal rights for women and LGBTI communities. Our Washington, DC office is a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes policy reform and political dialogue in our program areas through publications, public seminars, conferences, workshops, study tours, and visitor programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure transparency and accountability in the management of all finances within the office and for projects
  • Prepare monthly and annual accounts
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial and administrative record keeping in compliance with policies and procedures of the organization
  • Develop financial plans and monitoring documents of the operational budget and programme funding
  • Prepare annual audit documents
  • Prepare analysis of the foundation’s financial position
  • Prepare financial reports in accordance with international accounting standards
  • Manage project accounting and tax-related bookkeeping and reporting
  • Develop and manage appropriate financial and administrative systems and policies for all requirements
  • Oversee the operation of the computerized Navision accounting system, including daily, monthly and annual back-up
  • Co-operate with program directors, partner organizations and hbs headquarters on finance related matters.
  • Support improvement and enforcement of internal processes and controls
  • Manage maintenance of asset register


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 3 years of financial and/or administrative management experience
  • Oral and written proficiency in German strongly preferred, but not a must
  • Strong organizational, time management and analytical skills
  • Very strong problem-solving skills
  • Superb attention to detail and follow-through
  • Creative, pro-active, self-directed and responsible attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting applications; experience using Navision preferred
  • Knowledge of US tax regulations for non-profits preferred
  • Experience managing bank and credit card accounts preferred
  • A genuine interest in the values and mission of the Heinrich Böll Foundation
  • Applicants must have a valid US work permit
