The August Aichhorn Center operates two long-term psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (RTFs) for very disturbed teenagers suffering from severe refractory mental health and behavioral issues. For more information about our programs, please visit our website at www.aichhorn.org.
We are seeking a full time registered nurse interested in working in behavioral health. Our registered nurses are responsible for medical care and management and for assisting psychiatrists and social
workers in treatment planning. While this job does call upon technical nursing skills, the biggest
tool our nursing staff utilizes is the creation of therapeutic relationships with our troubled youngsters. Nurses must feel confident that they can communicate effectively with our residents.
Daily medication administration.
Medical and psychiatric assessment, especially following changes to
medication or treatment plans.
Monitoring of residents during crisis situations and during any
Scheduled EKG's and blood draws.
Minor first aid as well as the triage and follow up of any more
serious medical issues.
Minimum Associate of Science in Nursing
(BSN and experience in psychiatric nursing are desirable but new graduates are welcome to apply.)
Current New York State RN license must be in good standing.
Ability to work in high stress environment.
Ability to work well in a team as well as alone.
Schedule: Flex time--Three days a week plus at least one overnight on-call shift (at or near the facility) per week.
Insurance and/or pension (cafeteria plan) equal to an additional 22% of base salary
