Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator works closely with Operation Dignity management and staff to implement and sustain high-quality, housing-focused programming; conduct intakes and ensure veterans are placed in the program best suited to meet their clinical needs; and ensure excellent compliance with requirements from the VA, Oakland Housing Authority, and other funders as needed. This position serves a critical linchpin role across the agency, creating consistent service standards and aligning programming with contract goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • U.S. military veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • At least two years of experience working in a non-profit or social services setting, particularly one serving veterans and/or people experiencing homelessness.
  • Excellent understanding of, and experience implementing, best practices in serving homeless veterans, including Housing First, Harm Reduction, trauma-informed care, SMART goal making, etc.
  • Experience managing government contracts and aligning programming with outcomes.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite/Internet/Database Applications. HMIS/Clarity experience a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Project Management.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; able to work independently, juggling multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Able to bring and maintain compassion, patience, tenacity and dedication to the homeless and veteran communities.
  • Cultural competency; able to maintain effective professional relationships with a culturally and racially diverse group of staff and clients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; tactful, diplomatic, empathetic, and able to de-escalate tense situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage personal boundaries in a social services environment.
  • Strong team player.
