Who We Are

Capital Partners for Education (CPE) serves high school and college students from low-income Washington, D.C.-area households who are in the academic middle and primarily first-generation-to-college. Through one-to-one mentoring and guidance from CPE staff, we seek to provide the skills and experiences students need to successfully complete college and to excel in the workforce. CPE’s student body has doubled in size over the last five years, and our students have graduated college at nearly three times the rate of their similarly-situated peers. CPE’s work is driven by creating and maintaining strong relationships, which help propel our youth forward.

About the Role

The Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator (VRC) executes the day-to-day process for the recruitment of new volunteers and retention of CPE’s current community of diverse, committed volunteers and mentors. This person is essential to guiding every potential volunteer through the process from the first moment of learning about the program to finally being matched with a student and becoming a mentor. This role also supports the events and opportunities that keep our volunteer community motivated and connected to CPE. The position reports to the Recruitment Manager. 

Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment

  • Screen volunteer applications to identify qualified prospective mentors
  • Schedule and conduct mentor interviews
  • Track prospective mentors as they move through the process to ensure all information is correctly submitted and approved 
  • Review and confirm volunteer background checks alongside the Recruitment Manager
  • Collect and accurately record information on all people who apply to be mentors. Ensure data integrity so that Programs leaders can make accurate strategic decisions about volunteer recruitment 
  • Co-facilitate information sessions to corporate and community partners
  • Support the Recruitment Manager in all methods of marketing and publicizing the mentoring program
  • Monitor and maintain advertisements for mentors across sources
  • Assist with the matching process for new and returning mentors 
  • Support all other needs of the program to maintain a high-quality pool of mentors for CPE’s students 

Volunteer Engagement

  • Help coordinate and execute all mentor and volunteer events and opportunities for retention and recruitment, including all events for National Mentoring Month in January
  • Co-facilitate student-mentor match events in collaboration with the Student Recruitment Coordinator and other Programs team members
  • Support the Recruitment Manager to coordinate Mentor Leadership Council (MLC) meetings
  • Monitor Signal Vine for mentor communications and address or escalate all inquiries and requests promptly 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least one (1) year of experience in recruitment – preferably with adult volunteers, but may include other types of stakeholders
  • Event coordination experience required; experience with events for volunteers is a plus
  • Proficiency collecting data from a variety of sources and recording it with accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to conduct one-on-one interviews and handle sensitive information with empathy, respect, and confidentiality
  • Ability to facilitate engaging presentations tailored to diverse audiences of varying sizes
  • Passion for serving CPE’s target population
  • Ability to identify areas for process improvements and to propose realistic solutions
  • Ability to take initiative, both individually and as part of a high-performing team
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus

We are not able to sponsor employment visas for this position. Applicants for this position should be legally able to work full time in the United States for 12 months.

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily sedentary, but involves moving around at occasional off-site events. The person in this position will need to respond to emails, chat messages, and audio/visual communications, and may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with internal team members, access files, and use office machinery such as a copier/printer.

To counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, CPE uses a non-negotiable salary system. Our goal is to offer a competitive salary that also meets our equity guidelines. Rather than negotiating, we offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with Flexible Spending Account options, effective the first day of the month following employment
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer matching of 3%
  • Life and disability insurance with premiums fully funded by CPE
  • 15 days of paid vacation in each of the first two years; 20 days in subsequent years
  • Office closed on national and state holidays and between December 24-January 1
  • Flexible teleworking policies in response to employee needs

This position will begin in January 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CPE is currently operating on a 100% remote work policy with a planned return-to-office date of March 2022, dependent upon CDC guidelines and general health and safety best practices. At that time, the person in this role will be expected to reside in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
