About Osa Conservation:

Osa Conservation’s mission is to conserve the globally significant terrestrial and marine biological diversity of the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica by implementing ecosystem stewardship, enhancing scientific understanding, providing education and training, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.

We believe in a holistic approach to conservation, one grounded in a systematic understanding of the ecological, social, and economic relationships that shape environmental problems. Our work is founded in science and supported by strategic partnerships, well-informed decision-making processes, and a strong commitment to improving lives through protecting nature. We recognize that in order for conservation to succeed, it must be coupled with science, community engagement, and strong systems of support upon which to collaboratively build a more sustainable future.

We are currently seeking a Field Operations Manager to join our team in Costa Rica.

Summary of this Role:

Osa Conservation (OC) owns several thousand hectares of property in 4 locations in the Osa Peninsula. On these properties are a variety of facilities and operations including:

● an organic farm, biological station, ecolodge, and staff accommodation

● extensive trails covering at least 15 kilometers

● a variety of water lines from springs that provide water to OC’s facilities

● Power generation is done by both solar power and hydroelectric power

● Access roads that can be quite long in the order of 3 kilometers in areas of steep terrain.

● Significant machinery and vehicles involved in operations, which includes a fleet of cars, trucks, ATVs, tractors, and a shredder

Maintaining the infrastructure of all of the buildings and supply lines as well as maintaining property boundaries, roads, and trails requires a constant effort. There is a team of staff devoted to this upkeep. We seek a Field Operations Manager who will supervise this team and who will optimize their efforts to provide general maintenance as well as timely interventions to solve short-term crises, such as the breakage of a waterline. The candidate will also need to oversee the station's team to ensure that guests’ arrivals and departures are managed efficiently.

Cleaning staff are required for a very specific set of duties related to maintaining the rooms of guests, providing laundry services to visitors and staff, and ensuring that bathrooms are kept in a good state. The Field Operations Manager is responsible for supervising these duties.

Last, the thousands of acres of habitat owned by OC need to be protected from illegal hunting, logging, and other forms of potential abuse.
