Description

The Public Policy Director will oversee and manage all of Rosie’s Place’s social justice work, and to ensure that all activities are consistent with Rosie's Place’s mission, philosophy, and policies.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Rosie’s Place’s President and VP of External Relations to create and design Rosie’s Place’s public policy agenda
  • Determine legislative priorities and create and implement a legislative strategy
  • Build relationships with potential and current allies, including other Boston-area advocacy groups, Rosie’s Place volunteers and individual legislators and government officials
  • Work with Rosie’s Place’s Communications Director to widely promote policy agenda
  • Supervise Public Policy Assistant on guest education and empowerment activities to engage guests in the elections and in the policy-making process
  • Supervise volunteers and interns 
  • Represent Rosie's Place and its policy agenda, to the community


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in Public Policy, Organizing or Campaign work, with demonstrated experience in leading an initiative or effort
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of substantive poor people’s issues, such as housing, welfare rights, drug treatment, homelessness prevention, hunger
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts legislative process and politics

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Job is performed in a general office environment
  • Day-to-day work includes paper and computer work as well as interaction with staff, guests and volunteers
  • The position requires travel between facilities and various locations
