Position Summary

Tahirih Justice Center, a non-profit legal services organization, is seeking to hire a Development Associate. This position is based out of Tahirih’s Houston office. This Development Associate will focus on mid-level giving strategies to foster relationships with donors, strengthen those relationships, increase the base of donors, and effectively track the progress of fundraising goals. The Development Associate will report to the Development Manager and work closely with other office staff members to identify and secure sources of potential support. 

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of direct fundraising experience.

Tahirih is currently on fully remote working status. We intend to return employees on phase approach. When we fully return to offices, this position will be office-based in Houston.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Portfolio management: 

  • Create and track Fundraising strategies: The Development Associate must create effective fundraising strategies, that include contacting donors, maintaining relationships with existing donors, helping in organizing events, and creating and submitting reports of fundraising progress. 
  • Record progress: One of the main tasks of this position is to maintain and record donations and pertinent information into the database.
  • Database management and data mining
  • Responsible for all phases of donors’ relationship management
  • Responsible for all stewardship efforts and sending acknowledgements for donations

Administrative support:

  Perform supportive administrative functions, including but not limited to:

  • Gifts management
  • Others as needed for fundraising strategies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education

  • Associate     degree in Business, marketing or English majors, Bachelor’s degree     preferred.

Experience

  • Must have a at least three years of direct fundraising experience, preferably in a higher education institution
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Detail-oriented with above average organizational skills
  • Should be able to work well independently but also as a member of the Houston and national teams
  • Good understanding of marketing and communications principals is preferred. 

Annual salary and benefits: The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 and will be commensurate to experience and qualifications. Generous benefits include employee and dependent health, vision and dental insurance (Tahirih pays 80% of the premium for employees and 60% for dependents); a 401(k) defined contribution retirement plan; flexible work schedules; and professional development including in-house training programs, staff enrichment retreats and other growth opportunities. Employees have a very generous self-managed leave benefit inclusive of sick, vacation, and holidays, including an office closure the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

Through pro bono holistic legal services, community outreach and education and nonpartisan public policy advocacy, Tahirih protects women and girls seeking protection from gender-based human rights abuses such as domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, female genital mutilation, honor crimes, and forced marriage. Tahirih is a Bahá’í-inspired organization and works to create a world where women and girls can live in safety and with dignity. Tahirih’s 80 employees work from offices in the DC metro area, Baltimore, Houston, Atlanta, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
