Intro/Program Description: Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities, or “NORC”, promote the concept of “aging in place” by providing a myriad of services for residents which enable them to remain in their homes. The West Side NORC is comprised of three buildings which receive services – including social work/case management services provided by on-site Goddard Riverside social work staff.


Purpose of Position: The Program Director provides leadership and management of the program including staff supervision ensuring proper data collection and reporting to funders, development and maintenance of community relationships.


Role, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties


Staff Supervision

·      Supervise NORC staff, interns and volunteers; recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff

·      performance

·      Arrange volunteer rand staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage

·      Facilitate regular NORC staff meetings


Agency Liaison

·      Conduct meeting with Advisory Council and community partners

·      Maintain relationships with building managers

·      Promote the development of community partnerships

·      Link agency with government agencies and other service and advocacy organizations

·      Represent NORC at GRCC program directors meeting and communicate agency –wide information

·      to staff

·      Participate in Senior Services program planning


Program and Contract administration

·      Manage program budget in consultation with Deputy Executive Director (DED) and Associate Deputy Executive Director (ADED)

·      Ensure adherence to contract requirements including data collection and reporting, maintenance of records and documentation of program activities


Client Services

·      In collaboration with staff and members, identify needs and problems of elderly residents living independently; assist and advocate for clients and client population on a wide range of issues including entitlements, insurance health coverage and housing issues

·      Ensure program provides a welcoming environment

·      Oversee the development and implementation of a program of activities that are responsive to member needs and aspirations

·      Perform outreach and home visits to encourage clients to participate and determine their needs

·      Document services provided and client status in case records according to program guidelines

·      Handle emergencies and support staff in their efforts to provide necessary crisis intervention

 

Case to cause advocacy:

·      With staff and supervisors, note trends in client needs and service gaps, and bring these to attention of senior staff and citywide advocacy organizations

·      Participate in Goddard Riverside advocacy and community building activities


Qualifications/Educational Requirements

·      Masters of Social Work

·      NYS Social Work Licensure

·      Supervisory experience

·      Experience with the elderly

·      Outstanding communication skills

·      Self-starter

·      Knowledge of aging as a developmental life process and resources for older adults

·      Team player

·      Knowledgeable or willing to learn web-based systems
