Youth Haven is a state-licensed group home that offers 24/7 care for up to 12 youth ages 7-17 who are experiencing homelessness or are in foster care. Residential Youth Counselors (RYC’s) are direct care staff and provide support to all youth utilizing a trauma informed approach. RYC’s are responsible for guiding daily activities within the shelter, including morning routines, meal preparation, homework, medical appointments, and legal needs. They motivate and engage the youth to identify and complete personal goals and are responsible for modeling and teaching healthy communication and daily living skills.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Model a positive attitude and appropriate behavior for youth residents while teaching independent living skills.  
  • Provide academic support and tutoring to residents as they meet their education goals.   
  • Assist in planning a wide range of recreational and vocational activities, including group outings; develop plans with youth for constructive use of free time.  
  • Facilitate group meetings to constructively address house problems or concerns.   
  • Teach, supervise, and model chores, including meal preparation and clean-up, room care, and residence maintenance.   
  • Monitor residents’ health, and document whereabouts and behavior changes; create and maintain the residents’ charts. 
  • Collaboratively cultivate a sense of community and maintain community safety in youth common areas. 

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, or related field is preferred. 
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working or volunteering with youth; experience working with youth experiencing homelessness or involved in the foster care system is preferred. 
  • Must be 21 years of age or older. 
  • Must pass an FBI background check.

SCHEDULE  

Mix of Day Shift (8 am – 4 pm) and Swing Shift (4 pm – 12 am). Must be willing to work weekends. Work is performed onsite/in-person in Kirkland, WA.

  • Ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity. 
  • Understand the dynamics of homelessness and trauma experienced by the youth and incorporate knowledge into daily interactions with youth. 
  • Understanding of clear and appropriate boundaries with youth. 
  • Knowledge of Strength Based Practice, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care.

Salary

$18.62-19.19 Per Hour + Competitive Benefits

The non-Bilingual starting rate is $18.62 per hour and the Bilingual in Spanish starting rate is $19.19 per hour, with an increase after one year of employment. Friends of Youth offers a competitive benefits package that includes:
