LOCATION:

Coordinators work at school sites 80% of the time, and remotely 20% of the time, with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts.

Launched in 2007, the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools’ mission is to transform schools to revolutionize school systems, empowering all students with a high-quality education. The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 13,550 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. The Partnership works within the LA Unified School District context, which includes honoring all collective bargaining agreements for its teachers and school staff. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising. The Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising will play a vital role in the Partnership’s systems change work, which is focused on removing barriers and scaling successes for school transformation. The Coordinator’s work is tied to a multi‐year grant-funded project that drives the implementation of middle grades mathematics curricula in Los Angeles Unified School District. The Coordinator will be responsible for providing direct coaching and consultative support to LAUSD schools to drive the successful adoption and implementation of high‐quality instructional materials. In addition to working directly with LAUSD, the Coordinator will have a hand in developing the Partnership’s model of high-quality curriculum implementation, including team systems and processes. The Coordinator will also work in collaboration with the Partnership Math Team, Systems Advising Team, and School Transformation Teams to develop the Partnership’s capacity and expertise at the intersection of policy and practice. This is a full-time, year-round position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Capacity Building (35%)

  • Build school leadership team capacity to lead their teams in implementing high-quality math instruction, including planning with high-quality curriculum, implementing instructional routines, leveraging data to adjust and strengthen instruction, utilizing curriculum maps, and using data to inform instruction
  • Lead and support administrators and teacher leaders to develop collaborative environments focused on student outcomes
  • Work directly with teacher leaders at school sites to plan for and lead inquiry cycles and data cycles with grade-level or department teams of teachers
  • Design and deliver regional and school-specific professional development to improve the delivery of math instruction
  • Provide teachers and leaders with instructional resources related to implementing high-quality math curriculum 
  • Facilitate ongoing data inquiries to determine progress and needs of school site instructional initiatives, and support school leaders and teacher leaders in analyzing and responding to data


Material Creation & Teamwork (30%)

  • Participate as a member of the Transform and Revolutionize Teams and other relevant work groups to exchange information, coordinate activities, develop teacher support resources, and resolve issues or concerns
  • Assist with the development and use of mathematics curricular materials, including curriculum maps, common assessments, and other tools to support teachers and students in meeting the demands of Common Core


Implementation Monitoring (25%)

  • Conduct classroom observations and coaching conversations to support department-wide growth and promote student learning
  • Assist site leaders to observe for and support effective instruction of high-quality curriculum


Project Management (10%)

  • Work with the Director of Curriculum Systems Advising and Vice President of School Transformation to develop and execute priority initiatives for math instruction at LAUSD schools
  • Use data to track and monitor progress toward goals, and adjust course as needed
  • Maintain trackers for data, coaching, professional development, and other requests from Director of Curriculum Systems Advising


REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of successful full-time teaching experience
  • At least 2 years of successful leadership experience within the school context (coach, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, principal, assistant principal, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree required, and a master’s degree or advanced degree preferred; a degree in mathematics is a plus
  • A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students
  • Experience designing, organizing, and facilitating professional development for adult learners
  • Experience leading teams through cycles of inquiry that have led to sustained improvement in teaching and learning practices
  • Experience working across multiple schools a plus
  • Experience and/or familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics curriculum a plus 
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and build strong working and mentoring relationships with adults
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, instructional staff, and support staff
  • Ability to travel between school site and home office

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising role is grant-funded and is helping us explore the long-term possibilities of fee-for-service work. As such, this position has guaranteed funding for 1 year, and will be re-evaluated at the close of the grant.


The starting salary range for the Coordinator of Curriculum Systems Advising position is $104,031-$116,594. Starting salaries are dependent on experience, skills, market rates, and pay equity among current staff members. The Partnership also offers a robust benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents; a 403(b) retirement program with employee match and vesting; parental and sabbatical leaves; a professional development allowance; and generous paid time off.

When we set salaries for new team members, we consider market rates, pay equity among staff in similar roles across the organization, skills and experiences required for the role, and organizational budget. Because of all of these factors, the majority of new team members do not begin at the top of the salary range provided.

Partnership for LA Schools is a contractor with Los Angeles Unified School District and has implemented a Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine Policy.
