The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore, is offering a full-time, salary non-exempt position to work with the Engagement Department.


Our Washington, DC office is presently closed due to the COVID-19 health emergency. Therefore, we will accept remote applicants who work/reside in the following states:

CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, ME, NC, NY, OR, PA, TN, and VA. Relocating to Washington, DC will be required when our Washington, DC office safely re-opens post-pandemic (exact timing TBD).

 

Successful applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the United States.


Position Summary

The Youth Engagement Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, expansion, and management of Campus Corps chapters and Climate Reality youth engagement programs to support youth activists in pursuing real solutions for the climate crisis. This position will support the program manager and the larger Engagement team in strategic campaign planning and implementation, event and logistical planning, coalition and movement building. This position may require weekend work and domestic travel..


Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


·      Providing organizing and chapter support to Climate Reality Campus Corps chapters to run advocacy trainings, host days-of-action, and drive targeted grassroots campaigns.

·      Assisting in the planning, strategy, and intentional outreach to increase Youth and BIPOC attendance at Climate Reality Leadership Corps Trainings.

·      Assisting in the planning, implementation, and post-training engagement for Youth Climate Reality Leaders and Campus Corps Chapter members under the age of 26 through digital and on-the-ground programming at Climate Reality Leadership Corps Trainings

·      Support the build out of Youth engagement programming for trained Youth Climate Reality Leaders

·      Developing strategic campaigns for Climate Reality Campus Corps chapters to use targeted grassroots tactics in institutional and federal campaigns, including movement building, relational organizing, divestment, and lobbying.

·      Building relationships and coalitions with youth activists and youth justice organizations, as well as identifying strategic engagement opportunities for Climate Reality activists to get involved.

·      Supporting the Chapter Support Team in developing resources and materials and leading webinars or workshops for Climate Reality chapters.

·      Supporting the build out of DEIJ infrastructure, growth, and learning for Community and Campus Chapters

·      Selecting and mentoring interns in the engagement internship program.

·      Tracking and reporting campaign metrics and narratives as needed. 

·      Other duties as assigned.


Other Responsibilities

·      Continue to support the expected growth of the Campus Corps program after the 2021 Trainings

Providing insight, guidance, and intentionality around Unpacking Whiteness programming at the organization to work on white-dominant organizational culture and internal DEIJ goals


Qualifications

·      College degree or equivalent experience

·      1-2 years of field, campaign, or volunteer organizing experience

·      HBCU, campus and student organizing experience preferred

  • Experience in event and logistical planning

·      Experience working in coalition

·      Understanding of the intersections between climate, racial, and economic justice

·      Dedication to solving the climate crisis and prioritization of environmental justice

  • Willingness to travel and a valid driver's license

·      Strong written and verbal communications skills, particularly advocacy writing

·      Good time management and organization skills.
