The Organisation

The Global Climate Collaborative is the working title for a new international organisation seeking to make a distinct and important contribution to tackling climate change — the greatest challenge facing humanity.

Our aim is to enable high-impact international and national coalitions to secure decisive action by governments that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We are at a formative stage, listening and building relationships with key players, designing the organisation, and developing short-term plans. We want to identify compelling options for our first campaign convening, through dialogue with leading civil society as well as business groups, as well as through our own analysis.

The Role

Working under the direction of the Chief Architect, the International Campaign Strategist will be key to getting the GCC off to an impactful start, handing over at the end of six months to the person appointed permanently to the role of International Campaign Director.

In this role, you will analyse a wide range of options for the first two to three campaigns, to go live from September this year. You will identify the issues on which there is greatest potential for impact, and then develop creative and impactful campaign strategies. You will do so in dialogue with a wide range of organisations, and working with a short-term team of campaigners and researchers that you will recruit to achieve this. You will report to the Chief Architect, who will identify some of the issues and options that have been identified in initial discussions with potential partners and allies.

Key Deliverables

  • Lead the process of developing a wide range of options for the first two GCC campaigns and then identify the strongest options for implementation
  • Carry out this process in dialogue with campaigners, business leaders, think tanks and other organisations and individuals active and influential in climate policy.
  • Recruit a short-term team of campaigners and convenors, to identify and analyse these options in dialogue with other organisations.
  • Develop creative and impactful campaign strategies on agreed priorities, working throughout with coalitions of like-minded organisations.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Architect on the future strategy and structure of the GCC based on the learning from campaign design and development (including the approach to working at national level).

Candidate Requirements

  • Highly strategic and creative campaign leader.
  • A strong record of designing and leading highly impactful national (and international) campaigns.
  • Demonstrated success in convening diverse coalitions to achieve campaign objectives.
  • Strong understanding of the politics of climate change and networks of influence on climate change policy (campaign group, think tanks, businesses, others).
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills and high level of fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong people-management skills, including delegation and self-awareness.
  • Ability to lead and manage complex projects involving people from a wide range of organisations and countries.
  • Commitment to the GCC values of courage, collaboration, diversity and learning.
