Volunteering Untapped (VU) – the Baltimore-based nonprofit that has connected thousands of millennials with local charitable organizations – is now seeking an Executive Director!

As Executive Director, you will be responsible for setting the vision and managing the direction of the organization. VU is poised for significant advancement, and our new Executive Director will chart a course for immediate local growth and potential future national growth.

You will oversee all day-to-day tasks of the organization and focus on fundraising and partnership development. Additional responsibilities include marketing, strategic planning, networking, event management, administration, guiding other VU Chapters throughout the country that are replicating our successful model, and more. The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors.

With additional Chapters in Chicago and Philadelphia, the organization has seen an exponential increase in interest, impact, and volunteer hours in our nearly five-year history. The organization has been covered by The Baltimore Sun, The Baltimore Business Journal, The Daily Record, and Baltimore Magazine several times, as well as by all of the local Baltimore TV stations for our work with many of the top nonprofit organizations in the city. With your help, we will greatly expand our impact.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Fundraising and Development:

  • This includes regularly researching and submitting grants, connecting with local and national foundations, developing relationships with local corporate and individual donors, and creating additional funding opportunities.
  • Developing other resources necessary to support VU’s mission.

2) Board Relationship: Works with the board in order to fulfill VU’s mission – “Improving Baltimore by increasing volunteerism.” The Director must:

  • Work with the Board to establish and implement the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions.

3) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. The Director is responsible for:

  • The fiscal integrity of VU, which includes submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget to ensure maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

4) Organization Operations. Responsible for the creation and implementation of strategies that fulfill VU’s mission, coordination with key partners and funders, idea generation around new programs and initiatives, and all general management for the organization. The Director will oversee:

  • The continual and ambitious growth and effective administration of VU operations and established programming.
  • Management and oversight of marketing, programming, and strategic partnerships committees. 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Three-plus years nonprofit management experience, or comparable experience in a similar industry/field.
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong networker who can build strong relationships with charities, funders, partners and more.
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Strong public speaking ability and confidence in media relations.

 

Actual Job Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and operate the organization’s annual budget.
  2. Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
  3. Serve as VU’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
  4. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance VU’s Mission.
  5. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the Foundation throughout the State.
  6. Supervise and collaborate with organization staff.
  7. Strategic planning and implementation.
  8. Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
  9. Manage all marketing and other communications efforts.
  10. Review and approve contracts for services.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

  1. Creation and execution of ambitious fundraising goals.
  2. Strategic growth of event attendance and quality of volunteer experience.
  3. Demonstration of improvements in organizational efficiency.
