ROLE DESCRIPTION:

As a member of the City on a Hill Charter Public School Leadership Team, the Director of Professional Development & Compliance will work closely with other administrators to ensure our teachers and staff receive targeted professional development to strengthen our capacity to support students, and ensure our programs are compliant with applicable state and federal requirements. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and will work closely with the Chief of School and Principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Development (30%)

  • Creates an arc of learning for all staff to address skills gaps aligned with City on a Hill’s academic and cultural goals;
  • Designs and presents professional development sessions during weekly staff meetings and quarterly PD days;
  • In collaboration with the Chief of School and Principal, ensures that City on a Hill staff are consistently observed, receive feedback and are equitably evaluated annually;
  • Oversee anti-racism, equity, and civil rights trainings and consultants in collaboration with the Chief of School, Principal, and Director of Climate & Culture, Human Capital Coordinator.

Fellows Program Administration (30%)

  • Own the re-launch of City on a Hill’s Urban Teaching Fellow Program, a 12-month immersive, on-site licensure program for those who want to teach in urban public high schools;
  • Act as liaison between City on a Hill and our licensing partner, Boston University;
  • Recruit, hire and manage Fellows and Mentor Teachers throughout the school year;
  • Design and teach the Urban Teaching Seminar, a yearlong Master’s course in the Curriculum & Teaching Department at Boston University;
  • Facilitate end-of-year portfolio defenses for the Fellows; and
  • Maintain Massachusetts licensure in a subject area.

State and Federal Compliance (40%)

  • With support from Senior Leadership, will ensure that City on a Hill is in compliance with federal, state, and local government accountability policies, requirements, and regulations;
  • Manage relationships with City on a Hill’s external stakeholders and partners, including the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and consultants hired to produce external facing deliverables;
  • Complete and submit all reports (EPIMS, SIMS, SCS, MTELs) to the state, in conjunction with the Director of School Operations & the Data Manager;
  • Complete Charter School Pre-Enrollment Form, February 15 Claim Form, Titles I & II reporting requirements, and the Annual Report, among others, as directed by the Superintendent’s Checklist created by DESE;
  • Own all charter amendment applications, including schedule changes, bylaw updates, enrollment plans, etc;
  • Manage access to, and security roles and functions within, the Directory Administration, the central depository for district and school level data which provides an efficient mode for maintaining and updating educational information between the DESE and targeted school administrators, legislators, municipal leaders and others;
  • Act as Public Records Access Officer and ensure compliance with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Open Meeting Law (OML) requests; and
  • Execute additional ad hoc projects, as directed by the Chief Executive Officer or Chief of School.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A belief that all students can and must learn at high levels and a commitment your own continued learning, particularly as it relates to City on a Hill’s journey to operating as an anti-racist school
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 5+ years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban public high school
  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to plan for and manage multiple projects and deliverables concurrently in a fast-paced setting with ease, professionalism and positivity
  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Initial Massachusetts licensure + SEI Endorsement

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in a high-performing charter school 
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts charter compliance regulations and implementation
  • Experience serving as a teacher coach and/or teacher evaluator
  • Graduate-level teaching experience (preferably in Education)
  • Professional Massachusetts licensure
  • Experience serving as a CAP Supervising Practitioner and/or Program Supervisor
  • Experience serving an administrative role in an educator preparation program
