THE OPPORTUNITY

Position Overview: The Academy of Alameda is seeking a 6th grade math/science teacher who can join our excellent math and science teams to help all of their students strong build foundational skills so that they have both the conceptual understanding and the confidence to succeed at a high levels. The Academy has a differentiated math pathway (support, grade level, and advanced) designed to help all students be successful. Our science teacher have received and will continue to receive training using the Next Generation Science Standards. Our science curriculum is lab based, as we believe that students are even more engaged when they have the opportunity to “live” science.

THE ORGANIZATION

The Academy of Alameda Elementary and Middle Schools, located on the West End of Alameda, serve one of the most diverse student populations in the state. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. or B.S. required;
  • Multiple subject credential or a secondary single subject science and/or math credential required
  • National Board Certification is a plus
  • 3+ years teaching experience serving a diverse community preferred
  • Experience teaching in a student-centered and collaborative school model a plus
  • Experience with one or more of the following: project-based learning, interdisciplinary curriculum, Common-Core, restorative justice, responsive classroom, small group intervention, and service learning.


TIME COMMITMENT

All teachers are 11-month employees (August-June), specific work dates can be referenced in the annual work year calendar.
