GLAAD operates with support from foundations, corporations and individuals from every corner of the United States. Our highly skilled team of more than 50 staff work out of our Headquarters in New York and an office in Los Angeles and support our expanded reach through multiple chapters across the country. Over the past several years, GLAAD has achieved rapid and significant growth and currently has an annual operating budget of approximately $12 million.
GLAAD is seeking a proven, entrepreneurial and exceptionally resourceful fundraising and development professional to help shape and significantly advance GLAAD’s institutional giving program to contribute to GLAAD’s overall annual fundraising goal of $12 - $15M for fiscal year 2019. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Institutional Giving will play a pivotal role in cultivating meaningful and long-term relationships with private, family, community and corporate foundations resulting in raising $4M from this network of current and newly engaged partners committed to issues impacting the LGBTQ community. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a fast-paced, collaborative and creative fundraising team forging new directions and approaches that push the bar on driving revenues to support the critically important work of GLAAD.
§ Build and lead a high-impact institutional giving acquisition and engagement strategy involving the cultivation of a broad network of current and new relationships across the community of private, family, community and corporate foundations
§ Conduct active research across a diverse range of institutional funding sources to identify potential compatibility and interest in the work of GLAAD, including analysis of past, current and prospective supporters and partners.
§ As an ambassador of the organization, conceive of new and innovative marketing and relationship building approaches to attract new prospects that gain interest and enthusiasm for the work of GLAAD
§ Collaborate with the GLAAD Board, leadership team, professional staff and volunteer committees to understand funding priorities and develop a roadmap for targeting potential institutional funders to address these needs
§ Leverage the resources of the Fundraising and Marketing/Communication Departments to help structure institutional partnerships, and develop and design compelling proposals and “pitch” presentations
§ Serve as the primarily relationship manager for all institutional funders and partners keeping them abreast on an on-going basis through site visits and on-going briefings and reports of the work and initiatives of GLAAD
§ Serve as a significant thought partner and contributor on all institutional grant proposals, report submissions and grant solicitations, and position the organization, through these activities, for on-going and new support from institutional funders
§ Identify and implement a series of meaningful engagement opportunities for institutional funders to sustain their interest and long-term support of GLAAD
§ Provide direction, oversight and supervision of the Grant Writer prioritizing key projects and deliverables to accomplish with GLAAD’s existing and prospective institutional partners
§ Oversee the budget including expenses and revenue generation related to all institutional giving initiatives and relationships. Utilize Raiser’s Edge to track and monitor all pledges and payments
§ Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports tracking key performance indicators and the financial results of institutional giving activities for review by the Finance Department and Senior Leadership Team
May be assigned other related duties and responsibilities by the Chief Development Officer and President/CEO
Experience | Education:
§ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred
§ Minimum of 10 years’ fundraising experience with a prominent, high profile nonprofit organization supported by a proven track record of cultivating relationships with a diverse network of private, family, community and corporate foundations and securing grants in $100K - $1M range
§ Deep understanding and knowledge of the national community of institutional funders supporting social impact issues and programs in the LGBTQ community
