Role Description

Baltimore Corps seeks a detail-oriented, proactive finance or accounting professional to serve as Deputy Director of Finance & Operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the person in this role will provide leadership, oversight, and administrative direction to Finance, Payroll, and Operations.

Baltimore Corps recently transitioned to an independent 501c3, and this role is a unique opportunity to help the organization further develop and refine its operations through a creative focus on problem-solving and collaboration.



  • Oversee the accounting function, which includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, reimbursements, general ledger preparation, financial statement preparations and other accounting activities
  • The Deputy Director will manage a full-time accountant who has primary responsibility for accounting functions. The Deputy Director does not need a formal accounting background but must be familiar with general finance and operations processes and able to support the accounting function as needed
  • Support and manage regular payroll, bill payment, and retirement contribution processes
  • Support annual 990 filing and audit
  • Work closely with Baltimore Corps’ CFO and Director of Finance on budget development and management, financial planning, and strategy
  • Support team Directors in developing and managing programmatic budgets
  • Support in drafting budgets for new short term projects and initiatives
  • Coordinate with the Development team to prepare grant budgets and financial reports
  • Other Finance projects as assigned


  • Coordinate annual benefits enrollment process for staff and provide benefits support during the year
  • Manage relationships with employee benefits providers
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding process for Baltimore Corps staff roles and for roles supported through external hiring partners (e.g. fiscal sponsor organizations)
  • Support procurement of new vendors
  • Monitor the Baltimore Corps PO box
  • Develop and recommend operational policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols
  • Oversee the creation of an organization-wide performance improvement and operational strategy, which includes the designing, improvement and management of the operations system
  • Provide oversight in the development and management of the organization-wide operations manual
  • Manage the Operations Manager in developing standard operating procedures for each programmatic or organization-wide system
  • Actively pursue strategic and operational objectives
  • Support on-site facilities manager
  • Other Operations projects as assigned


  • Other duties as assigned


  • At least 5-7 years of experience in the fields of operations, finance, or business administration, ideally with a nonprofit organization. 2+ years of nonprofit experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve and exercise judgment
  • Highly detail-oriented, careful, and precise
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel
  • Ability to manage competing demands and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively across departments with a diverse team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to give, receive, and incorporate feedback

REPORTS TO: Baltimore Corps’ Director of Finance & Operations

Timeline and Compensation

This is a full-time salaried position, ranging from $70,000 - $80,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is September 2021.
