Position: After School Tutors   


Program: After-School Tutoring

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Work Hours: Monday – Thursday from 3:15– 5:15PM

Location: U Prep- Arapahoe Street Campus, 2409 Arapahoe Street Denver, CO 80205 and U Prep- Steele Street Campus, 3230 E. 38th Ave. Denver, CO 80205.

About our Program: University Prep will have an after school tutoring program this year to serve our 4th and 5th grade scholars. With the COVID-19 pandemic, and shifts in learning environments over the past year, we want to ensure going forward that our scholars are ready for middle school and beyond. Our goal with this program is to catch up scholars who are struggling with grade level materials.

 

What you’ll do:

·       Embody mission and vision of our organization.

·       Live by the five core values that guide our work together (Educate our Scholars, Serve our Families, Serve the Team, Walk the Walk and My Child).

·       Lead 45 minutes of English Language Arts and Guided Reading tutoring for two scholars, then switch and lead 45 minutes of tutoring for an additional two different scholars.

·       Be responsible for tutoring two scholars at a time.

·       Pick scholars up from snack time in cafeteria, then lead them to tutoring space in classrooms to begin session.

·       Help with getting scholars dismissed for their transportation zone at end of session.

·       Enforce school-wide systems and procedures designed to maximize learning for all children.

·       Consistently use school-wide behavior management systems that ensure logical consequences and restorative practices that are predictable and supportive of scholar development.

·       Support scholars in meeting and exceeding expectations set forth in our PREP values as they build their strength of character (PREP - Pride, Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Perseverance).

·       Communicate regularly and proactively with U Prep staff, scholars, and families as needed.

·       Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines.


Position Requirements:

·       Ability to work from 3:15– 5:15PM, Monday – Thursday (each day).

·       Ability to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

·       Ability to wear a face covering/mask while in the school building.

·       Must be able to pass fingerprinting/background check.

·       Must have a deep understanding of fifth grade level reading and English Language Arts.

·       Ability to work in person/in the school building. This is not remote/telecommuting role.

·       Full commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission and vision of University Prep.

·       Full commitment to organization’s core values and core identity.

·       Unyielding optimism that children can perform at or above grade level regardless of where they may be starting their educational journey.

·       Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

·       High expectations for yourself as well as scholars - including punctuality, reliability, and adhering to scholar confidentiality.

·       Openness to feedback and a strong desire for continual growth and development as a professional.

·       Demonstrated commitment to working in urban education and/or with a diverse student population.

·       Excellent verbal and written skills.

·       Strong organizational skills.

·       Bilingual strongly preferred (English/Spanish).

·       Track scholar progress to ensure a clear picture of scholar mastery of grade level expectations.

·       Plan accordingly in collaboration with team members and leaders.

·       Provide engaging, motivating, and rigorous tutor instruction in small group and individual settings.

·       Actively engage with children to understand their backgrounds and experiences. Support an equitable and inclusive school environment.

·       Play a direct role in developing and strengthening a warm, consistent, and focused school culture in which learning time is maximized.

·       Continuously use feedback from leaders, colleagues and families to make productive changes in instructional practices - and overall performance.

·       Implement a growth mindset with scholars.
