Donor Relations and Engagement Manager

LifeWorks of Austin, TX is looking to hire a Donor Relations and Engagement Manager to join our Development team. The Donor Relations and Engagement Manager is responsible for increasing philanthropic support to LifeWorks by maximizing the engagement, involvement and commitment of individuals, corporations and family foundations. Builds ongoing productive relationships between donors and prospective donors by effectively articulating the case for support, vision, and mission of LifeWorks and its priorities. Maintains an active prospect pipeline that places individuals at different stages of development cycle (discovery, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) and measures their progress as they move from an unqualified lead to donor. With supervisor guidance and through close collaboration with the Director of Sustainable Philanthropy, develops and executes individual prospect development strategies for assigned prospects and donors.

The Donor Relations and Engagement Manager focuses approximately 50% time on activities directly related to the fundraising gift cycle of annual giving and pipeline building strategies. 50% percent time is focused on other activities related to donor relations, including gift acceptance and acknowledgment, events, donor recognition, stewardship reporting, and administrative duties, such as planning and coordinating.


Donor Relations and Events

  • Plans and executes the point of entry tours, events, and other fundraising activities as appropriate for cultivation purposes, to attract new prospects and donors, and to raise the visibility for LifeWorks.
  • Develops and performs inspiring donor cultivation presentations to varied external audiences in virtual and/or in-person settings.
  • Collaborates with other Development staff to design and implement strategies for LifeWorks, including the annual spring ask event, the agency’s most significant sustainable funding event of the fiscal year.
  • Increases the visibility of LifeWorks by maintaining an active role in attending events in the Austin community as they closely align with agency fundraising strategies.
  • Engages current and prospective donors as Ambassadors to host point of entry events and helps determine the size, scope and outcome of each activity.
  • Works closely with volunteers and development colleagues to develop sustainable engagement opportunities for prospects and donors.
  • Coordinates with various LifeWorks Board of Governors and Legacy Circle members, as well as their networks and referrals, on engagement activities.
  • Manages volunteer Ambassador program and co-manages youth speakers for LifeWorks sustainable funding outreach.
  • Manages comprehensive corporate engagement strategy including weeklong campaigns incorporating employee engagement and giving opportunities.
  • Reviews gifts to ensure that the donor’s intentions and the organizations needs are congruous.
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and meaningful expressions of gratitude to donors in formal and personalized ways.
  • Coordinates reporting to donors on the impact of their gifts on the mission of LifeWorks.

Front-line Fundraising

  • Manages a curated portfolio of prospects drawn from the pool of Legacy Circle and annual giving donors, tour attendees, corporate partners, and referrals.
  • Develops and maintains complex/sensitive relationships with individuals critical to funding success.
  • Applies donor-centric approach within the Benevon model of sustainable funding thereby making specific efforts to discover, cultivate, solicit, and renew Legacy Circle giving society members, focusing on the $1,000+ annual giving level.
  • Maintains a robust prospect pipeline by actively discovering and accessing a prospective donor’s interest, affinity and capacity at all gift levels.
  • Drafts necessary correspondence and provides follow up generated by point of entry tours, events, and personal visits. Completes follow up phone calls to potential donors after point of entry events. Documents interactions through updates to CRM.
  • Engages with finance, administrative and program staff in identifying and reaching out to prospects and donors, as well as expending and tracking gifts and grants for donor stewardship.

Administration and Planning

  • With CDO and Director of Sustainable Philanthropy, develops plans and strategies that meet department goals and timetables for annual giving donors, Legacy Circle members and overall giving to LifeWorks.
  • Reviews and tracks expenses.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures related to fundraising and donor relations.


  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree;
  • Requires 5+ years of related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite programs, including but not limited to Word, Excel and SharePoint, and proficient in database/CRM, email, and Internet applications.
