Program Manager

We are seeking an experienced Program Manager who will be primarily responsible for planning and executing the program-related work scope of Hanford Challenge under the guidance of the Executive Director and Deputy & Legal Director.  As part of Hanford Challenge’s leadership team, the Program Manager will balance high-level responsibilities with operational tasks to ensure compliance and steady progress on organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Program

  • Hanford Challenge Programs: Manage and track all Hanford Challenge programs. 
  • Manage Program-related Grant Work Scope: Ensure various grant obligations are met and provide input for various grant applications and reports, including public events, public outreach materials, tabling, writing reports, submitting public comments, and increasing public involvement in public comments. 
  • Public Events: Plan and execute program-related events in coordination with the Outreach and Events Manager.
  • Program Materials: Responsible for program-related materials and displays.
  • Public Disclosures: Work with the Executive Director to disclose and seek accountability for illegality, threats to human health and safety, environmental law violations, nuclear safety threats, and fraud and abuse. 
  • Maintain and Build Relationships: 
  1. Alliances/Partnerships: Build, maintain, and expand alliances and partnerships with key stakeholders.
  2. Workforce Relationships: Maintain and expand internal networks with employees and agency insiders. 
  3. Elected Official Relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials at both the State and Congressional levels. 
  4. Cleanup Agencies: Monitor and interact with agency leadership at both the federal and state levels.
  • Hanford Advisory Board: Train under the Senior Program Strategist and Executive Director to provide worker advocacy representation on the Hanford Advisory Board; attend meetings and follow the advice development process.
  • Public Comments: Ensure organization submits public comments on important public comment periods. 

Communications 

  • Press Releases: Draft, review, and assist in distribution of Hanford Challenge press releases. 
  • Stakeholders: Train under the Executive Director to provide point of contact for overall community and public relations, presenting a strong and positive presence to relevant stakeholders. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  • Website: Responsible for regular and timely updates of program-related work. 
  • Social Media: Create and post content to social media platforms. Create posts, plan campaigns, and ensure effectiveness of social media tools as needed.

  • Detail-oriented leader, flexible team-member, and willing problem solver
  • Skilled writer and editor; a writing sample will be required
  • Strategic thinking and planning
  • Proven track record of successfully directing projects as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities effectively 
  • Experience with non-profit management

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-year degree
  • 2-3 years experience as Program Manager or equivalent experience
  • The flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness needed to manage a wide range of programs for a small not-for-profit organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and updating in social media platforms

Desired 

  • Knowledge of the Hanford Site
  • Experience working on a strategic plan
  • Experience with Little Green Light, Canva, Squarespace, and Airtable
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Location: Seattle, WA

FLSA Classification: Full-Time, Exempt 

Position Reports to: Executive Director 

Salary Range: $65,000 - 72,000 (depending on experience)

Travel: This position requires some travel in Seattle, Portland, the Tri-Cities, and Washington, DC.
