The Center for Digital Resilience (CDR) is seeking a Security Director to join our global team to manage security guidance and practice across CDR and our communities.

The Security Director will be responsible for overseeing how CDR understands and responds to the digital security threats facing its partners and at-risk communities around the world. They will work with CDR staff and partner communities to research, analyze, and share information about new and persistent digital security threats facing high-risk civil society communities and human rights actors around the world. They will be a community player, highly-cooperative with others in the sector, and espouse an open source ethos to data and learning.

As a key member of CDR’s leadership team, they will help guide the organisation’s direction, and strengthen civil society resilience by ensuring our programs are best in class.

We work closely with partners to provide the structures, tools, and resources needed by communities to operate safely and effectively online. Responsibilities

● Stay up to date and on digital security threats facing CDR communities, current best practices and changing standards

● Advise on project security for CDR, members and partners

● Standardize CDR service provider curriculum and coordinate CDR’s service provider

mentorship program

● Provide on-hand digital security advice and guidance in response to member, donor, and

other partner inquiries

● Coordinate threat research and analysis for internal distribution, and distribution across CDR communities

● Maintain key internal and external security documentation

● Manage incoming junior security staff

● Manage relationships with network of security service providers

● Manage notifications infrastructure (mail accounts, PGP keys, newsletter services)

Qualifications

Relevant Experience

● At least 5 years experience working in human rights, digital security, tech advocacy, or related field working with high-risk users and communities

● Holistic digital security expertise, with understanding of threats faced by government surveillance, social engineering, online harassment, malware, and related issues

● Experience coordinating activities across online networks or communities

● Experience communicating effectively across multiple platforms in a fast-paced, remote

team environment

● Exceptional professionalism and follow-through with acute attention to detail

● Superb interpersonal, writing, and communication skills

● Ability to manage time effectively across multiple responsibilities and priorities

● Excellent ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse, multicultural

audiences across organizational boundaries

● Fluency in English is required; fluency or proficiency in other languages is a plus

● Ability to work alone and remotely whilst building close working relationships with

colleagues and partners

● Excellent writing and communication skills

Additional

CDR is a global organization registered in Washington, D.C. This position can be located anywhere, with a slight preference for those based close to EST, GMT, or CET time zones. CDR is a small organisation of six staff members with a commitment to stay small. Therefore candidates should be self-reliant and prepared to jump in and help on organisational tasks where necessary and appropriate.
