Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.

BAM is seeking a Donor Relations Coordinator to work in the Development Department. The Donor Relations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Development team in its stewardship of donors at the $1,500+, including administrative and donor-facing work on all events, including the annual BAM Gala and work in conjunction with the Customer Service team to facilitate sharing of donor information, and updates to frontline fundraisers.

BAM administrative staff are currently working from home. However, we do have plans to re-open BAM’s offices in the Fall. As we re-open BAM’s campus, all BAM staff will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter the buildings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track, manage and distribute RSVP’s for BAM events including donor stewardship and cultivation events
  • Follow up on invitations and provide event details and updates to confirmed guests for BAM donor events
  • Attend events and assist with check-in as needed
  • Service as the primary point of contact for collecting information from BAM Gala table and ticket buyers, as well as distributing event and seating information to guests
  • Work with development staff on seated events, providing administrative support for guest seating
  • Work with customer service and ticket services to ensure proper ticket holds for events and patron usage
  • Work with customer service and ticket services as needed to facilitate tickets for donors $1,500+
  • Provide a line of communication from customer service to frontline fundraisers to share relevant and essential donor information and experiences
  • Represent Development Department at performances and special events
  • Work Patron Table (VIP ticket pick-up) shifts as requested 
  • Assist with Patron phone and email coverage as needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • 1-2 years of previous work experience, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Ability to communicate directly to donors and provide a high level of service
  • Familiarity with non-profit gift processing and accounting procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and Google Docs
  • Intermediate knowledge of Tessitura and Microsoft Suites a plus;
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask projects with varying deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experienced presentation skills 
  • Ability to build 1:1 relationships with existing donors and new prospects 
  • Demonstrated interest in BAM’s programming and mission 
  • With advance notice ability to work some evenings/weekends
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
  • Interest in the performing arts and cinema
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) work.
  • Comfortable working with DEI concepts, programs, and initiatives.
  • Available for evening and/or weekend work and willingness to travel 
  • Must have the ability to comply with NYC COVID-19 vaccination mandate

Compensation: The salary for this position is $45,588. The role is a Union position, and will be paid in accordance with the BAM/UAW 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is full-time non exempt and eligible for benefits.
