Description

SUMMARY

League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) seeks a dynamic, experienced professional to join the LMB team as Development Director. This is a full-time position based in our Lansing, Michigan headquarters.

This position provides leadership for the creation and implementation of strategic fund development initiatives including: major and annual giving, direct mail, events, sponsorships, peer-to-peer fundraising, donor stewardship and recognition, and administration related to development. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of two years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in a non-profit organization, and an interest in bicycling.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Gifts

•    Develop a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors

•    Identify potential donor relationships and manage information to assist staff and volunteers in helping to cultivate and solicit major and planned gifts

•    Develop and implement targeted fundraising plans for major gifts, planned giving, matching gifts, recurring donations, annual campaigns, etc.

•    Cultivate and maintain ongoing communications with private and corporate donors


Direct Mail

•    Plan, execute, and evaluate direct mail solicitations, including annual and special appeals

•    Leverage matching gifts to increase total donations and average gifts

•    Develop segmentation strategies to facilitate donor retention and increase average gift size


Special Events

•    Secure sponsorships for LMB Tours and other events

•    Collaborate with staff on the management and planning of fundraising events, donor receptions, house parties, member mixers, etc.

•    Coordinate and execute invitations, programs, volunteer management, and other event logistics

•    Follow up with attendees and report on results as appropriate


Other Tasks

•    Produce reports on major giving for staff, Board of Directors, or volunteers as needed

•    Maintain and grow database of current and potential members and donors

•    Routinely engage major donors by phone, face-to-face, and other means to cultivate strong relationships

•    Oversee proper acknowledgement and stewardship of all gifts

•    Oversee implementation of fundraising related elements within LMB Strategic Plan

•    Identify and execute opportunities to leverage database tools more efficiently

•    Pursue peer-to-peer fundraising opportunities

•    Support efforts to grow LMB’s $1 Per Rider Program

•    Support efforts to retain and grow LMB membership

•    Curate efforts to move supporters up the ladder of engagement

•    Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements as needed

•    Staff board committees as appropriate

•    Play a leading role in developing LMB’s Annual Report

•    Oversee grants on limited basis including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements

•    Other duties and office responsibilities as needed in small non-profit environment


IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

•    A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or related work experience with at least two years of non-profit fundraising experience including grant writing and individual/corporate donor recruitment/retention

•    Skill in writing and editing compelling grammatically correct communications

•    Strong verbal communicator who is comfortable with public speaking

•    Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

•    Software experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, relational database management such as Neon CRM or equivalent, and social media platforms a plus – training provided as needed

•    Conscientiousness, strong work ethic with attention to detail

•    Professional demeanor, sense of humor, and a strong ability to collaborate

•    Capacity to solve problems and identify ways to complete tasks more efficiently

•    Flexible and able to manage competing priorities in a changing environment

•    Self-motivated and self-directed, seeking guidance when appropriate

•    Enthusiasm for bicycling


SUPERVISION

Work under the administrative direction of the LMB Executive Director


REQUIREMENTS

•    Flexibility to work non-standard hours for occasional evening and weekend events as needed

•    Must be available for in-state travel (driver’s license required)


COMPENSATION
