Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), an internationally recognized presenter of contemporary performing arts and cinema, is looking for our Budget Analyst.

The Budget Analyst is responsible for effectively monitoring BAM's financial resources, ensuring budget actuals are adhering to accounting standards and providing accurate budget reporting.


  • Develop and update modules which support efficient management of capital project budgets, project costs, vendor accounts, cash flow forecasts
  • Reconcile and close various internal budgets
  • Complete journal entries for cost allocations and recodes for all budgeting areas
  • Complete all budget modifications and update changes in Multiview accounting system
  • Review and sign-off on purchase order coding. Follow-up on any incomplete or inaccurate purchase order coding
  • Respond to inquiries from other departments regarding budgets and spending
  • Complete weekly uploads of payroll data in to MV financial software and quarterly reconciliation of the General Ledger to payroll reports and IRS form 941
  • Design and distribute reports to departments on budget versus actuals including monthly distribution of non-full time payroll budget reports
  • Set-up and maintain Project code requests; also schedule closeout timelines accordingly
  • In preparation for a fiscal year end closing and annual audit, complete PBC schedules for selected balance sheet, income, and expenses accounts
  • Create and deliver ad-hoc budget reports manually and/or with Multiview financial software
  • Complete quarterly trial balance review for assigned accounts
  • Complete training sessions for budget owners and MV end users
  • Maintain cost worksheets and variance reports for Capital Projects including variance reports, anticipated cost reports, change order logs, contingency transfers, vendor accounts and vendor contract balances
  • Draft BAM requisitions to funding agencies and manage CM requisition process
  • Generate budget and expense reports for Capital Projects Director and Chief Financial Officer. Report project financial information to BAM Directors and Executives for their use and distribution
  • Manage process for payment applications to agencies: draft budget in consideration of capital eligibility, maintain change order logs, draft budget modifications, draft payment applications based on supporting documents from the architect and construction manager
  • Maintain account maps, track actual costs against budgets, monitor the application of expense account codes in the general ledger and develop fiscal year end accruals for the Capital construction projects
  • Participate in development of project budgets by providing the Capital Project Director and CFO with analysis of estimates and historical information
  • Help with preparation of BAM’s program for submittal to the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs by drafting budget and reviewing text in light of capital funding eligibility requirements
  • Assist other BAM departments, with grant initiatives and programs by sharing knowledge and resources of capital projects department (with respect to budgeting and accounting)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years relevant work experience in accounting or with budgets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi task and to adhere to deadlines
  • Strong time management skills and organization skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Multiview 
  • Interest in BAM and its programming
