THIS OPPORTUNITY

WSG’s FY21 budget is $4.35M with over 90% coming from generous individuals, foundations, companies and organizations in our community.The Development and Communications Assistant (DCA) is an integral member of the four-person development team at Washington School for Girls (WSG). The DCA is responsible for supporting development operations and drafting accurate and inspiring communications materials that engage the WSG community in the mission of the school. The successful candidate will be task-oriented, creative, and responsive to managing multiple priorities on an intentional timeline.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Development:

  • Support database administration, including preparing reports, importing and exporting data, generating and segmenting mailing lists for mass mailings, assist with staff and volunteer correspondence campaigns, and periodic data quality projects
  • Collaborate with all development team members to ensure constituent records are as complete as possible, including maintaining accurate records of solicitor relationships and moves management activities
  • Regularly update templates for acknowledgement letters
  • Manage donor and sponsorship benefits delivery
  • Maintain memberships with United Way and other workplace giving campaigns, including attending any workplace giving fairs
  • Coordinate with external groups wishing to support WSG through special projects, such as holiday donations/drives, consulting projects, speaking engagements, or volunteer efforts (at the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Development)
  • Provide logistics and hospitality support for school and fundraising events (catering, set-up, RSVP tracking, attendee communication, event volunteer management)
  • Support the WSG Auxiliary Board (young professionals) with communications and event planning
  • Fulfill daily office operations as needed

 

Communications

  • Draft, design and produce various publications, including event invitations/flyers, collateral materials, blog posts, email newsletters, solicitation letters, and reports for various funders under the direction and supervision of the Director of Development
  • Maintain social media consistently (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others) for a broad audience including donors, parents, students, and prospective students
  • Maintain external portion of website for a broad audience, including donors, parents, students, and prospective students
  • Support recruitment/enrollment team by developing collateral material and promoting recruitment events through social media and other avenues
  • Take photos at school events and coordinate professional photography days
  • Maintain stock of stationery, mailing materials, and information packets for donors
  • Submit communications pieces to coordinating organizations and membership organizations as necessary


CANDIDATE CHARACTERISTICS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Passionate about the mission of WSG and equity for girls of color
  • Excellent written communication skills and basic to intermediate graphic design skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituents
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Experience with data management tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Word, Excel, Google Apps, Google Email)
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience
