BACKGROUND

The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC), is a global activist network fighting

for universal access to quality health services and affordable medicines. ITPC is an issue-based organization that uses HIV as an entry point to the right to health and treatment access across the world. More information is available at itpcglobal.org.

SUMMARY

ITPC Global is seeking to contract the professional services of a research assistant to support the design and development of a short research study during October and November 2021. The intent of the study is to document the influence of community-led monitoring and advocacy (CLM&A) in improving clinic-level quality and accessibility of health services in both central Malawi and in Gauteng Province of South Africa, and to document the practices of CLM&A that contribute to that success.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Support consultations with local partners to ensure community review of the research study.
  • Support finalisation of a short online survey to be conducted in English, Chichewa and Setswana and related identification of individuals to be invited to participate in the survey.
  • Assist in subsequent implementation of the research, including calls to drive in survey responses, and calls with local partners to collect CLM&A documentation.
  • Provide support for final compilation, writing and communication of research findings.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Research assistant should possess.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and short deadlines is essential, including an ability to send emails and make calls, and receive, review, and compile multiple documents.
  • Experience in working with community-based organizations and also with health clinic workers is highly desired.
  • Ability to speak and write in Chichewa or Setswana strongly preferred.
  • An interest in community-led monitoring of health and human rights and/or advocacy for access to quality health services and affordable medicines is an asset.
  • Strong writing abilities preferred, as would be any Masters level of education or training in a health-related field.
