General Description: Coordinate and develop public relations and marketing campaigns featuring industry advocacy, membership, training/certification programs, and event promotions through integrated media.

Tasks and Duties

General duties and responsibilities:

  • Handle tasks related to the creation and fulfillment of marketing plans/strategies for multiple events and programs via email, social media, newsletters, electronic advertising, and the SWANA website
  • Write and edit public relations-focused communications via articles for member magazine, newsletters, and sponsored content
  • Develop messaging for SWANA programs from safety awareness, industry advocacy, training and education, eLearning, Applied Research Foundation, industry days of recognition, conferences and events, to membership recruitment and retention efforts
  • Liaison between the association staff and marketing department in scheduling and intake of promotional projects (email and online)

Specific duties:

  • Coordinate marketing plans and schedules to strategically promote SWANA events and programs
  • Coordinate and oversee the production (writing, proofing, design/layout and dissemination to targeted contact lists) of SWANA electronic newsletters and eblasts (currently lnformz)
  • Write content for articles, magazine content, advertising and sponsored emails
  • Administration of social media strategy and execution of social media campaigns via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (Sprout Social) and review monthly social media analytics with team to determine success of campaigns
  • Coordinate creatives, messaging, budgeting and optimization of Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn remarketing and digital advertising in conjunction with marketing plans
  • Assist with all media relations including writing press releases, creating press kits, maintaining media lists and developing relationships with industry media to promote SWANA events and programs
  • Oversee implementation of trade-in-kind agreements with affiliate organizations to keep up with fulfillment of agreement deliverables on both sides
  • Proofread/edit all marketing materials before dissemination
  • Coordinate video strategy and execution
  • Manage SWANA Marketing intern(s) and intern recruitment
  • Travel occasionally to assist in event marketing including Facebook/Twitter Live video coverage and social media coverage


  • Experience working with an email management software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or lnformz knowledge is a plus)
  • Working with HubSpot and Feathr (optional but preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, lnDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
  • Proficiency with Sprout Social, Meltwater, and Google Analytics
  • Understanding of social media marketing and expertise in growing and engaging social followings on all platforms
  • Knowledge using Facebook Business Manager and implementing Google Ad campaigns
  • HTML experience and knowledge of web design best practices (optional but preferred)
  • Strong writing, editing and proofing skills
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated project management skills (develop timelines, coordinate rounds of edits, ensure adherence to deadlines)
  • Well-organized with ability to work on and manage a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities

Position Requirements:

  • BA/BS Degree preferred (may substitute 4 years of direct applicable experience)· One-two years of marketing and social media experience directly creating content
  • Knowledge of SEO, social media, online advertising, and marketing automation. This includes Google Ads and Facebook Business Manager.
  • Prefer previous marketing/internship experience within an association/non-profit organization, though it is not required
  • Must be willing to work as a team player and pitch in as needed

  • High probability of travel in the United States at least a couple of times a year
