Grant Writer & Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direct supervision of the Development Manager, this position’s primary responsibilities will consist of crafting and submitting funding proposals that 1) tell a compelling story of HIS-OC’s vision, history and accomplishments, 2) document (both quantitatively and qualitatively) pressing issues and their impact on North Orange County residents, and 3) clearly assert strategies, goals and objectives to alleviate issues for HIS-OC program clients and achieve intended outcomes; as well as crafting and submitting compelling foundation grant reports that comprehensively reflect the scope of work completed and positions the organization for continued funding partnerships.

The Grants Manager will also identify, research and track potential funding opportunities from private foundations and corporations, as well as assist in the creation and submission of narrative and financial reports required for the maintenance of existing grant contracts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

Manage the grant writing and submission process from start to finish for 30+ grant proposals each year, including:

• Conducting ongoing prospect research and analysis of new grant opportunities.

·  Liaising with foundation and institutional staff through phone calls, meetings, etc. and serve as an ambassador for the organization.

• Maintaining a work plan of planned grant submissions.

• Serving as lead writer and editor for all grants and coordinating a review of each grant by key staff.

• Developing and reworking narratives about all aspects of the organizations work to align with a diverse array of funding opportunities.

• Managing grant-writing volunteers as needed.

• Working closely with the Program Director and program staff to define outcomes and indicators for each new grant.

• Working closely with the Data Coordinator to pull necessary program-related data to inform/include in grant submissions.

• Working closely with the Executive Director and Finance Manager to craft accurate budgets and financial reports accompanying grant proposals and reports, and to keep them updated on all grants awarded and pending for cash projection purposes.

• Working closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure timely input is received and staff, board, and strategic partners are brought to the table proactively and thoughtfully.

·  Managing communications, reporting deadlines, and deliverables associated with a portfolio of current institutional/foundation funders, including:

• Managing grant data and monitoring the grant reporting schedule, ensuring team members are aware of upcoming deadlines and that deliverables are completed on time.

• Coordinating with and support program staff in writing and editing program-specific grant reports.

• Working closely with the Program Coordinator to pull necessary program-related data needed for grant reports and funder communications.

·  Oversee and ensure all grants are entered and tracked appropriately Report on grant efforts to management

·  Other writing projects and funder communications as needed to support the Development and Program teams.

• Writing, editing, and coordinating review of a monthly newsletter for current institutional/foundation funders.

• Supporting the Development Manager in the production of HIS-OC’s year-end Annual Report.

• Representing HIS-OC to funders, clients, partners, and other external stakeholders.

• Attending meetings with, and representing HIS-OC to, current and prospective funders, alongside the Executive Director, Program Director and Development Manager, and/or key program staff.

• Interviewing current and past HIS-OC clients about their experience with HIS-OC’s staff and services and crafting external-facing communications based on clients’ stories.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES SOUGHT:

• 3-5 years of experience in grant writing at a similar, fast-paced, nonprofit organization.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software as well as Google Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs).

• Proficiency with a CRM or similar data management software.

• Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and community mental wellness.

• Strong project management, delegation, and coordination skills.

• Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize multiple projects given organizational needs.

• Team-based and collaborative approach to work.

• Creative, inspiring, and strong writer, unafraid to bring new ideas and new ways of communicating about our work to the world.

• Ability to write for different audiences and to adapt and change writing styles.

• Excellent problem-solving skills.

• Proactive in thinking of and designing creative solutions to advance our mission and work.

• Enthusiastic, and willing to learn and try new things.

• Responsible and reliable, with a strong work ethic.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
