College Houses is a nonprofit student housing cooperative in Austin, Texas, managed by its student members. Formed in 1964, College Houses’ mission is to provide affordable housing to foster community, support education, and promote the personal development and well-being of our members. Located in the West Campus neighborhood near the University of Texas, College Houses’ 7 cooperatives are home to over 500 members.


Job Description:

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for working with the community to bring

resources into College Houses including, but not limited to, donations, grants, opportunities for

member education and growth, and access to new members. The Community Engagement Coordinator

will oversee fundraising efforts, marketing and communications, as well as alumni and education

programs. This position reports to the Executive Director and is considered a full-time, non-exempt

salaried position.


 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Fundraising and Resource Development

Coordinate with Executive Director to

o  create an annual Fund Development Plan

o  research, prepare and submit grant/funding requests that support the strategic initiatives of College Houses

o  plan and coordinate the annual anniversary celebration

o  recruit donors and steward donor relationships

Solicit sponsorships for and plan special events

Maintain donor database

Manage the Alumni Association

o  Maintain and update alumni database as members leave College Houses

o  Organize communications and special events for alumni

o  Create opportunities for alumni and members to network


Communications and Marketing

Coordinate with Executive Director to develop a strategic Communications & Marketing Plan and calendar; develop goals, messages and tactics (email, website, social media, newsletters, awareness initiatives, videos, mail, etc.)

Manage social media and online presence; create content for website

Create newsletters for internal (members) and external constituents

Develop an Annual Report to communicate accomplishments and strategic goals of College Houses

Develop awareness initiatives to promote College Houses and the cooperative model


External Relations

Network and represent College Houses with ally organizations to cultivate relationships that will broaden our membership base

Build partnerships with community organizations to strengthen CH programs and further our mission

 

Committee Support 

Staff support for the Strategic Initiatives Committee of the College Houses Board of Directors. Produces and distributes agendas, meeting minutes, and materials biweekly. Prepares reports, conducts research, and offers recommendations.


Program Management

Coordinate and/or facilitate formal education and training initiatives and events

With the Membership Director, coordinate and supervise the summer Hosteling Intern


F.   General

Help create a welcoming atmosphere for members, officers and staff

Treat everyone in a professional, respectful and friendly manner

Work as part of a team of professionals supporting co-op members and facilitating the success of the organization

Serve as a resource person to members, board members and house officers

Other duties as assigned


Working Conditions

Will work around standard office conditions

May spend extended periods of time at a desk working at a computer

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

This position is expected to work 40 hours each week, and be in the office from 10 am – 6 pm, Monday through Friday

This position requires the ability to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying and using force equal to lifting up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodations. Any lifts over 50 lbs. may only be performed as team lifts with supervisor’s approval


Knowledge, abilities, and skills

Knowledge of College Houses practice, policy and procedures

Knowledge of and skill in fundraising, communications, marketing, adult education and program management

Skill in oral and written communication

Skill in using computers and related software applications

Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing while working independently

Skill in data analysis and problem solving

Skill in planning and organizing

Skill in education and training practices

Ability to create and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholder groups

 Ability to recognize and recommend process improvement

 Ability to lead and train others

·Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with College Houses members, staff, and external stakeholders

 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma required

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work occasional evenings and flexible hours
