Modeling Fellowship (U.S.)

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is pleased to announce the opening of a new Modeling Fellowship based in either our Washington, D.C. or San Francisco, CA office. The ICCT is an award-winning, independent, global, non-profit research organization dedicated to providing data-driven research to support effective policymaking designed to reduce the health and environmental impacts of transportation activity around the world. This fellowship provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, model development, and policy-relevant applied research. The fellow will contribute to the development of our transportation emissions and energy modeling tools and support research on the impacts of policies toward decarbonizing transportation and reducing transportation-related air pollution and health impacts at the global, national, and local levels.

 Position Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of our transportation emissions and energy modeling tools, which are written in Python, version-controlled using Git, and have components in Excel;
• Develop and improve transportation databases, and analyze data to produce model inputs;
• Co-author reports, journal articles, model documentation, and other publications;
• Review other colleagues’ work including data products, Python code, and applied analyses.

 Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, transportation, or related field;
• Demonstrated proficiency with Python, Excel, and version-control software such as Git;
• Proven experience with data management, critical analysis, validation, and interpretation;
• Interest in analyzing the climate, energy, or health impacts of the transportation sector;
• Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Experience working in teams and a collaborative research environment.

Position Details

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), temporary position for a duration of 6 to 12 months. The position will be based in either our Washington, D.C. or San Francisco, CA office with remote working necessary through at least 6/30/21 due to COVID-19. The position may lead to regular, full-time employment depending on organizational resources and the Fellow’s performance. The fellowship includes health insurance and a competitive hourly range based on education and experience of $18-$30 (Washington, DC) and $20-$33 (San Francisco, CA).
