SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


This is a managerial position within the Education & Career Services Department reporting to the Deputy Director and working closely with other members of the department’s management team. The Career Services Manager will help lead a team tasked with building career opportunities for NMIC program candidates.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program Design:


  • Lead efforts to develop an employment readiness training (ERT) model that simulates a workplace environment and reinforces characteristics that high quality employers demand of their workforce. Materials should include, but not be limited to, presentations, worksheets, multimedia elements and activities to support candidate learning in multi-level classrooms.
  • Train staff to enhance workshop facilitation skills to maximize candidate workshop attendee experience and results.
  • Liaise with program management staff to establish program schedules that include ERT to ensure programming meets all candidate needs and funder deliverables.
  • Develop and implement a multifaceted retention strategy to support candidates through a series of benchmarks including employment retention, wage gain, and career advancement.


 


Business Development:


  • Develop a strategic business development plan to reposition NMIC as a no-fee talent acquisition service to potential employer/internship partners.
  • Develop a brand positioning strategy and marketing package that promotes NMIC to candidates, employers and other key stakeholders.
  • Build a strong and sustainable book of business to provide a continuous pipeline of quality internship and employment opportunities in a variety of industries with career ladder potential for the NMIC job seeker demographic.
  • Utilize data and workforce studies to sell the benefits of programming when working with both job seekers and employers.
  • Utilize data management and tracking tools to track all candidate interviews, employer feedback and placement data and use these data to support future business development.


 


Staff Management:


  • Manage a Training and Development Coordinator, including holding regular one-on-one meetings to maximize performance on key indicators and enhance the implementation of program design and business development priorities.
  • Coach a team of three job developers to maintain high quality and coordinated services across programs.
  • Work with department leadership to manage job developer scheduling to ensure an appropriate distribution of job development and administrative documentation tasks and an appropriate allocation of job development resources according to the placement and follow-up schedules of various programs.
  • Set incremental annual staff development and performance management goals in conjunction with the department management team; identify individual staff needs; and ensure appropriate trainings, resources and supports are available to aid professional growth.


Relationship Management:


  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, including funders, program partners, technical assistance providers, program candidates and others.
  • Interview, screen and evaluate candidates’ job readiness prior to referral to employment interviews.
  • Perform supplemental mock interviews and employment readiness preparation with candidates when necessary, or refer candidates to staff for further coaching.
  • Match interview referrals to candidates’ interests, occupational training tracks and skill sets.
  • Meet with candidates to generate referrals to employment opportunities and follow up with employers to receive feedback and check on candidates' hiring prospects.


Administrative Duties:


  • Monitor placement outcomes and documentation to ensure programs are on track to meet annual performance goals.
  • Oversee client case record maintenance in personnel files and appropriate databases to ensure compliance with departmental and funder record keeping guidelines.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports on account management activities, job placements and business development activities.
  • Become proficient with data tracking tools, including NMIC’s database, to support performance management.
  • Attend all division, department and agency meetings, trainings or workshops as required (including bi-weekly Education & Career Services Department managers meetings for department-wide planning and collaboration).



Additional related responsibilities may be assigned.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in workforce development, marketing/sales, and/or youth development with at least 2 years of managerial experience in the field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication ability, including presentation techniques and interpersonal skills.
  • A background in quality assurance, program design, project management and managing large scale work plans and working groups.
  • Superior problem solving skills and results-oriented.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
