Legal Outreach seeks a dynamic, passionate, and committed candidate to serve as its Director of Law-Related Education. It this role, the chosen individual will direct law related educational programs that inspire, motivate, and prepare students from underserved communities to reach their full academic and professional potential. The position is ideal for an individual who enjoys teaching, thrives on helping students overcome barriers to success, and cares about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities|

Under the supervision of the Managing Director of Law Related Education & Parnterships, the Director has the following responsibilities

●      Summer Law Institute

○      Direct and participate in the recruitment, application, and selection process for 8th grade students applying to the Summer Law Institutes.

○      Oversee summer staff hiring, including directing hiring of law students and college interns for each Summer law Institute.

○      Plan and direct training of summer interns in substantive aspects of Legal Outreach’s methodology and curricula on criminal law, criminal trial procedure, and pedagogical techniques.

○      Oversee the implementation of Legal Outreach’s Summer Law Institutes at partner law schools, including liaising with partner law school hosts, sponsoring organizations, mock trial judges, and other key people.

●      Debate

○      Oversee and direct the Constitutional Law Debate Program, including recruiting and training law student coaches, creating and refining debate problems, and co-leading instructional classes with College Bound Debate participants.

○      Oversee coordination of Debate events and preparatory logistics.

○      Oversee the evaluation process for students, coaches, and mentors.

○      Liaise with Debate sponsors from law firms and in-house law departments.

○      Supervise part-time Debate Interns.

●      Mentoring

○      Oversee the Mentoring program, including managing recruitment of attorney mentors, the pairing process with mentees, and social-cultural events.

●      General

○      Liaise with other LO departments and Parent Council to coordinate support for LRE events

○      Coordinate data collection and reporting for team and departmental meetings

○      Implement grant and sponsorship programming requirements

 

Requirements

●      Candidates must have a JD.

●      Candidate must be willing to make a 2-year commitment.

●      Candidate must have strong oral, writing, and interpersonal skills.

●      Candidate must be passionate about advancing educational opportunities for urban youth.

●      Candidate should have trial, appellate, or teaching experience or significant supervisory experience with youth programs.
