We work to supports new and exciting approaches to writing and inspire student engagement, and to foster generations of creative writers and thinkers who together will define a better future.


Position Overview

The Community Engagement VISTA will work with the Executive Director, Director of Education, and Programs and Volunteer Coordinator to improve the volunteer recruitment process, increase diversity amongst our volunteer pool, support volunteer performance and retention, and create outreach systems to build partnerships with community-based organizations and student groups.


Reports to: Director of Education

Hours: Monday-Friday 9:30-5:30, evenings and weekends as required


Responsibilities

  • Assess the current volunteer program and improve upon recruitment, onboarding, and retention of daytime volunteers
  • Develop partnerships to sustain volunteer corps pipeline
  • Create and implement plans to improve volunteer diversity across programs
  • Support volunteer recruitment for South Williamsburg, East Harlem, and city-wide in-schools programming
  • Help to increase volunteer cohort’s capacity for providing strong programming with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Assist with organizing volunteer appreciation events throughout the year


Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills
  • Comfortable representing 826NYC to diverse groups
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Proficient with computer applications (MSWord, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong work ethic, a collaborative spirit, a self-starter
  • Commitment to the mission of 826NYC


This position is an AmeriCorps VISTA position. A stipend is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
