To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger is seeking a Graphic Designer, Manager to join our growing team.

Reports to: Assistant Director of Communications and Content


Salary Range: $60,000 – $65,000 annually


POSITION OBJECTIVE

As the sole designer on Project Bread’s Communications and Development team, this team member is responsible for conceptualizing and executing compelling print and digital designs from beginning to end to support organization-wide needs and objectives.

Collaborating with multiple departments, they are able to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into on-brand designs that connect! They are highly creative and have a thorough understanding of branding and marketing, with the ability to vary style and layouts depending on the project.

They have expert knowledge of current design software and are skilled with every step of the design process from concept to the final deliverables and able to bring ideas to life with visual impact!

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project manage and execute internal requests from organization-wide design intake form
  • Through a DEI lens, they produce materials, many of which are translated into numerous languages, that represent Project Bread across channels and reach varying audiences. The varying aims of designed materials include: 
  • informing and compelling potential donors
  • stewarding existing donors and demonstrating impact
  • creating resources and promotional materials for program partners
  • Cross-channel marketing and produce materials to support a positive participation experience for our flagship fundraiser, The Walk for Hunger
  • Build a multi-channel marketing campaign executions to reach households across MA to drive consideration and usage of federal nutrition programs
  • Project Bread has numerous brands/awareness campaigns: Project Bread, Feed Kids Campaign, Summer Eats, SNAP (Start With SNAP Campaign), School Meals (coming this fall), The Walk for Hunger. This person is responsible for maintaining, pushing forward, and executing print (one-pagers, postcard mailings, reports, swag items, posters, etc.), digital (social graphics, including animated, infographics, email stationery, charts/graphs, paid digital media placements, powerpoint presentations, etc.) and out-of-home advertising (vinyl banners, a-frames, bus ads, billboards, etc) and more.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Bread’s Communications and Development team and external design agency and media buying agencies
  • Manage relationships with Project Bread’s translation partners, including the process of submitting content for translation, proofing, and maintaining internal documents to track completed translations.  
  • Use digital illustration, photo editing software and layout software to create designs to help deliver a compelling message.
  • Identify opportunities to promote and publicize organizational initiatives, activities, reports, and impact. 
  • Partner with colleagues across the organization to develop and manage content creation from the briefing stage to being published. Including incorporating feedback or changes into final designs.
  • Present design concepts to Assistant Director of Communications and Content, Chief Advancement Officer, and applicable colleagues.
  • Ensure projects are high quality and represent Project Bread’s branding, mission, vision and direction

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take part in Project Bread activities related to the Walk for Hunger including working the weekend of the Walk for Hunger and supporting the fundraising event
  • Participate and represent Project Bread in organization-wide events and meetings as assigned

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES

  • Team player. Identifies independent and collaborative work to support deadlines and project goals
  • Skilled in graphic design, both print and digital. Creative and innovative, willing to try new approaches to solving old problems.
  • Preference (though not required) to candidates bilingual in any of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin/Cantonese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, or Arabic 
  • Excellent communication style; ability to communicate design choices clearly
  • Intentional time management, multitasking and analytical skills
  • Precise editing and fine tuning skills
  • Strategic eye for detail

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of graphic design experience in print and digital 
  • Mastery of graphic design software (Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Sketch, InDesign and other graphic design software) Video editing a plus. 
  • Solid and growing knowledge of design and visual principles
  • Effective time and project management skills 
  • Compelling portfolio that demonstrates creative intent and originality


The Project Bread office is in East Boston. While there are various types of remote, hybrid and office-based positions, all staff are expected to occasionally be in the office.
