The Library Associate role is a 10-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

About the Library Associate position


The Library Associate, as a member of the Library Team, provides services to support patrons’ use of Library resources and services, is responsible for specialized areas of library operations, provides support to the library team, and coordinates the makerspace program. The Library Associate reports to the Director of Library and Innovation.


Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting library operations such as: circulation of materials, basic copy cataloging, shelving and inventory, purchasing materials, managing reserves, running reports, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Supporting the lower school library program, including working with students during classes.
  • Assisting library patrons with circulation, basic information questions, and related functions.  
  • Assisting patrons in the use of electronic library resources such as the online catalog, library website, research databases, e-books, Internet, etc.
  • Shelving library materials and maintaining reserve shelving.  Inventory library collection.  File in alphabetic and/or numeric files.
  • Performing routine basic copy cataloging, updating records in the online catalog, withdrawing items selected by a librarian, maintaining holdings records, and course reserve records, etc.  
  • Processing new library materials and mend damaged items.
  • Creating and updating general library handouts, brochures and signs.  Write drafts of information for newsletters, class schedule, etc.  Create and maintain displays.  
  • Participating in planning and implementing library outreach activities.
  • Sharing in responsibility of leading and training student workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Candidates Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Candidates with library and/or school experience preferred.


Candidates should also have: 

  • Strong collaboration skills
  • A commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse population
  • Experience working in urban environments
  • A proven ability to work as a member of a team.


Spanish speakers are desired.

 

In addition to the above requirements, teachers must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check and a negative TB test.
