Senior Associate - ReadyNation

The Senior Associate helps implement the organization’s strategic plan to strengthen business and the economy through increased public investments in children and youth at the state and federal levels. Specifically, the Senior Associate acts as the lead contact and manager for one or more state campaigns and other projects. He/she also collaborates with in-house communications, research, design and federal policy teams to accomplish the organization’s goals. 

Essential Functions:

  • Helps monitor implementation of team’s annual operational plan and manages, as appropriate, activities to ensure that such deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and reports to Co-Global Directors and National Deputy Director on significant developments concerning issues of interest and helps identify key policy and advocacy opportunities.
  • Assists team with the recruitment, engagement, and stewardship of business leader members.
  • Serves as the lead staff member for organization-wide advocacy efforts in multiple states and serves as the ReadyNation team lead in additional states. 
  • Helps develop substantive advocacy materials on various issues of interest, including background documents, talking points, sign-on letters, testimony, fact sheets, etc.
  • Manages, when appropriate, team resources to ensure timely completion of grant deliverables.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key allies, legislative staff and ReadyNation members in several states.
  • Briefs CSA staff and various allies on research, legislation, and other intelligence concerning various issues of interest. 
  • Represents and participates in various meetings and conference calls with allies 
  • Assists with the organization and execution of events and conferences at the intersection of business and education policy (e.g., ReadyNation Global Business Summit).
  • Helps coordinate activity with CSA shared teams to further policy and advocacy objectives.
  • Manages virtual communications with membership network (e.g., quarterly e-newsletter, bi-annual international e-newsletter, social media, etc.). 
  • Assists with administrative tasks including data entry, travel and meeting scheduling and preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Very strong attention to detail and demonstrated track record of completing high-quality projects on time and within budget
  • Ability to use diplomatic skills to manage complex relationships, including with experienced leaders
  • An understanding of the legislative process
  • Willingness to travel, as needed
  • Proficient with Google Drive/ Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Experience working with businesspeople (preferred) 
  • Commitment to making sure all kids get a good start in life

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Possible intern/staff oversight. 

Work Environment:

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and scan/fax machines.

Physical Demands:

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some packing and shipping of boxes is required. This would require the ability to lift boxes, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 5:00 PM. Some flexibility in hours is allowed but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Minimum experience required:

At least three-four years of relevant, professional experience. 


College degree  required      

Travel Required?  

Occasional travel required. Duration of trips typically 1-2 days.
