Title: Congressional Champions Project Director

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities. LCV, in collaboration with our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues.
LCV’s work to protect and advocate for the environment reflects the organization’s commitment to racial, social and environmental justice. Engaging communities of color among other key constituencies for the environment is an organizational priority. Within the organization, we aim to create a workplace culture and policies and practices that demonstrate how we value equity and inclusion.
LCV is seeking a Congressional Champions Project Director to manage and expand LCV’s program to proactively and systemically thank and cultivate our Congressional allies and champions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with advocacy campaign experience who enjoys developing strategies, working collaboratively, and experimenting with new digital and earned media tools, tactics, and techniques.
Work closely with LCV’s Government Affairs team as well as with LCV’s Campaigns, Communications, Development, Membership & Online Engagement Departments, and with state LCV affiliates to track, amplify, and cultivate members of Congress who are leading on climate change and public lands priorities.
- Ensure our Congressional Champions works integrates a racial justice and equity lens, making sure that Congressional members of color are equitably represented in all champs activities and that racially diverse voices are being amplified in our work.
In coordination with other departments:
- Generate and submit op-eds, editorials, letters-to-the-editor, and news stories in local media outlets. Organize tele-pressers and in-person events in Washington, DC and in states to amplify the environmental leadership of members of Congress.
- Deploy strategic and rapid response online campaigns to praise congressional champions, including email actions to LCV members and digital and other paid media efforts.
- Engage grasstops to thank to select members of Congress for their leadership.
Manage and guide project associate with daily and ongoing tasks, dividing the work load in order to ensure project goals are met and there is room for innovative approaches.
Assist SVP of Government Affairs, SVP of Online & Membership Engagement, and SVP of Communications with other projects as assigned.
Work experience: 5-8 years of working on campaigns and/or with elected officials and their staff; experience working with internal team members and external partners to achieve programmatic goals.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with high-ranking elected officials; strong writing and public speaking skills; must be very organized and detail oriented; must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint; must have significant experience with social media, including Facebook and Twitter, must have solid email copy writing skills and ideally have experience working in membership databases. Graphic design skills would be beneficial.

Capabilities: Solid judgment; critical thinking skills; a sense of teamwork and community; ability to handle multiple tasks and work with several people; able to function in a demanding and fast paced environment; able to maintain confidentiality, an interest in politics and environmental issues is essential. Experience managing staff is preferred.
Conditions: Able to work overtime as needed to fulfill mission. Ability and willingness to travel. The position is currently based in D.C.
