HEAF​ changes the lives of under served young people beginning in middle school and continuing in college and beyond through a youth development approach that includes rigorous year-round academic enrichment, social and cultural exposure and constant individual attention.

Program Description:

● Orientation: September 7th - 8th , 2018

● Fall Semester : September 22nd – December 15th , 2018

● Time: Saturdays, 9:00am-1:00pm, two 90 minute classes plus administrative time

Mathematics Course Description

Our middle school math classes are rigorous and Common-Core aligned, and provide opportunities for students to apply math concepts to real world contexts and to solving real issues. These courses will culminate in final projects designed to demonstrate student understanding and present an interdisciplinary approach to the study of math. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize progressive didactic, coaching and discussion instruction models. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential.

Job Requirements:

● B.A. in education, Mathematics or related field (M.A. preferred)

● NYC/NYS certification in Mathematics or significantly experienced

● Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school or high school

● Experience in cooperative learning groups, project-based learning, and inquiry-based learning techniques

● Excellent interpersonal skills

● Impeccable classroom management skills

● Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

● Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

● Ability and willingness to commit for the entire academic semester
