Role Summary:

The Malden Youth Programs Assistant will work with the Youth Programs Manager to review and deliver an A-VOYCE youth program in Malden, and promote A-VOYCE values of an inclusive, caring culture across and within A-VOYCE programs. This position will also support the continued development of the youth programs and build partnerships between the youth and residents, various community groups, and local stakeholders. The Youth Programs Assistant will work heavily with the Youth Programs Manager to ensure program delivery, effectiveness, and expansion.

The Youth Programs Assistant will continue to revise, refine and deliver leadership and project management training curriculum for A-VOYCE youth. Additionally, as a part of A-VOYCE’s strategic growth as a multi-year involvement program, the youth programs team will build out tools and structure for data collection to accurately assess 1.) growth in youth participants as they move through the leadership pipeline, and 2.) program effectiveness and potential areas of growth.

In addition to programming, this position will work with the youth programs staff to build out program evaluation and assessments as part of the curriculum to evaluate program success. Specifically, the Youth Programs Assistant will assess the Youth Logic Model and the Leadership Matrix and make changes as needed. Finally, the Youth Programs Assistant will complete general administrative tasks for program operations (maintaining and updating master document, project toolkit folders, paperwork, record keeping).


Key Responsibilities:

A-VOYCE Youth Leadership Programs

● Develop and lead a 35-week School Year A-VOYCE program, with support from the Youth

Programs Manager, that equips youth with leadership, self-efficacy, and project management skills

● Recruit 10-15 high school youth (ages 14-18) through school visits, flyers, soliciting, etc.

● Assess youth developmental outcomes progress on a regular basis

● Develop and lead a 6-week Summer Leadership program, with support from the Youth Programs Manager, that equips youth with skills in personal identity development and exploration

● Coach youth in developing marketable skills through workshops and community projects

● Supervise youth leaders off-site during occasional weekend or evening workshops/projects

● Build relationships with youth cohort through workshops, scheduled 1:1s, and feedback sessions

● Record all curricula and planning to ensure program sustainability and growth

● Supervise and train a college-aged intern or fellow during both school year and summer programming


Assessment & Additional Responsibilities

● Work with Youth Programs Manager and Team to track and measure quarterly year goals

● Analyze youth development outcomes and program evaluation feedback in collaboration with Boston After School and Beyond

● Establish new and deepen existing partnerships with schools, university offices, local community members, elected city officials, and business professionals

● Collaborate with Youth Programs Team and other ACDC staff in support of broader placemaking/placekeeping e􀀁orts during ACDC planning processes and events


Qualifications:

● Excellent organizational skills, leadership skills, and self-directed/highly motivated

● Experience working with youth and/or immigrants

● Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and Asana

● Proficient knowledge in/or willingness to learn about urban planning and placemaking/placekeeping efforts in Chinatown

● Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural team

● Preferred: Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin and/or other Asian languages

● Knowledge and interest in public speaking, program development, youth training and development
