St. Nicks Alliance is a nonprofit, nonsectarian community-based organization founded in 1975 with the mission to serve as a catalyst to improve the quality of life of residents in North Brooklyn communities through its work in five main areas: housing, health care, workforce development, economic development, and youth and education.

SNA AmeriCorps Workforce Members will play a pivotal role in the lives of disadvantaged youth, aged between 16 and 24 years old. A key innovation in St. Nicks Alliance’s Young Adult Program Network will be the provision of support across all elements of our in-school and out of school youth programming including (but not limited to) Young Adult/Adult Mentorship Programming, Young Adult Sector Training, Work Readiness Preparation, High-School Equivalency Preparation, Internship Programming, High-School Bridge Program Support. This role will be essential to helping our programs thrive by providing the support that is necessary to promote our programming, keep our young adults active and inspired, keep programmatic records safe and organized and helping to provide mentorship support to our young adults. AmeriCorps Members will adopt the Principles of Youth Development to guide their work with youth. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and building strong relationships with the youth.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing youth recruitment support by researching and analyzing recruitment event locations as well as being willing and able to attend recruitment events and confidently speak on behalf of all youth programs.
  • Providing (industry specific) mentorship recruitment and screening by researching and contacting industry professionals within the three training sectors that we require mentorship for (Construction, Technology and Health-Care). Researching potential mentor/mentee meeting locations and coordinating space availability along with mentor/mentee availability for all required events. Keeping track, monitoring and documenting all mentor/mentee matches and outcomes. Ensuring that all mentors successfully complete the on-boarding process.
  • Providing retention support to all young adult graduates and/or students by conducting phone calls/email check-ins and the documenting of conversations had.
  • Providing clerical support across all young adult programs in terms of filing and organizing all relevant documents / paperwork and shredding personal documents when necessary.
  • Establishing a presence in our assigned (and other local) high-schools to help bridge graduates (who are not college bound) into sector training and/or internship opportunities VIA our young adult workforce programs.
  • Providing data entry support across all young adult programs which includes gaining access to (and navigating) the St. Nicks Alliance ETO database and successfully entering all relevant participant information into the system.
  • Assist the St. Nicks Alliance young adult program staff with delivering work readiness preparation to qualified participants when necessary.
  • Assist the St. Nicks Alliance young adult program staff with life-skills workshop research and facilitation when necessary
  • Providing young adult community outreach by establishing relationships with local businesses, colleges, libraries and other relevant community areas to post and hand out programmatic recruitment materials.

Qualifications:

  • Should be an open-minded and mature young adult.
  • Have the ability to work a 40 hour work week
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or U.S. National
  • Have earned at least a High School diploma or GED
  • Must pass mandatory background checks and clearances
  • Be able to complete 1700 service hours in an 11-month period.
  • Have the ability to relate to students from a variety of backgrounds and abilities
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deliverable deadlines
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be comfortable using and participating on virtual platforms such as Zoom and Google Meets
  • Bilingual is a plus

Start Date

The projected start date ranges from mid November to end of December, following an interview, background checks and enrollment process.
