As a Puentes Activity Leader, you have the potential to change girls’ lives and grow as a leader in your community. Activity Leaders have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of girls, grades K-8, by facilitating girl-centered activities that promote positive self-growth. As guides of the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience, Activities Leaders support girl-led curriculum in areas such as STEM, the arts, healthy living, and leadership development.

Working in teams, Puentes Activities Leaders coordinate activities for groups of girls, facilitate community troop meetings, and serve as positive role models in migrant-education, summer school, and extended care programs throughout Oregon. Activity Leaders may work on-site/in-person, or in a virtual environment, depending on the needs of the partner program. Activities Leaders support girls in primarily Latinx programs, so strong Spanish-language skills are highly preferred.

The Position:

• Compensation - $15 per hour
• Hours - Temporary, seasonal part-time positions 10-20 hours/week (Monday-Friday)
• Dates - June through mid-August, 2021
• Sites/Locations - Elementary Schools, Middle Schools or Community based organizations in Metro Portland (NE Portland, Gresham, SW Portland, Woodburn, Cornelius, Hillsboro, Molalla), Salem, Silverton, Independence, Hermiston-Umatilla, and Eugene. (Please indicate your preferred location(s) during the application process.)
• Virtual – Depending on the needs of the program partner, and the current COVID-19 guidance, Activity Leaders may remotely using Zoom or Google Classroom.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age – due to minor supervision responsibilities, and background clearance requirements.
• Spanish language proficiency, highly preferred.
• Comfort and sensitivity working with diverse populations.
• Computer proficiency, including the ability to utilize virtual/online meeting platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom.
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, while managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to work well as a member of a team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate in large and small groups, as well as on an individual basis.
• Ability to communicate effectively under challenging circumstances while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Presentation/teaching skills, including the ability to present and lead activities in a virtual/online environment.
• Strong skills in organization and problem-solving.
• Ability to travel to school or community sites.
• Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree, completed or in progress, preferred.
• Experience working with groups of children, ages 5-14 years.
• Experience planning, organizing, and supervising activities for groups of children.
• Experience leading virtual/online activities/events preferred.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience with Zoom and/or Google Classroom, highly preferred.
• All applicants must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate Girl Scout Programs for 10-20 girls in grades K-8.
• Serve as a positive role model for girls in the program and engage in the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience model.
• Manage program supplies.
• Manage program registration/administration within assigned program site.
• Track program attendance.
• Complete administrative tracking and documentation associated with the program.
• Serve as liaison between assigned program site and main service center.
• Follow all policies and protocols set by Girl Scouts, and the school or program partner, including health and safety guidelines around COVID-19.
