The Opportunity.

The Trustees is seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist who can implement an integrated marketing strategy that will drive visitation, program participation, membership, enterprise, and other forms of support at Trustees farms, as well as for key agricultural initiatives statewide. 

 

The Marketing & Communications Specialist will report to the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications and will work closely with the Marketing & Communications team, including the Director of Public Relations. This position is a full-time, exempt position and will be located at 200 High Street, 4th floor, Boston, MA, once our offices reopen (currently planned for September).  

 

In This Role You Will: 

This position will provide support and oversight for the day-to-day marketing and communications efforts and strategies related to Trustees Agriculture, Appleton Farms, Chestnut Hill Farm, Moose Hill Farm, Powisset Farm, and Weir River Farm, as well as the Trustees Mobile Market and other key agricultural initiatives such as Trustees Grown products, CSAs, and farm camps. 

 

  • Support an annual marketing and PR strategy to elevate The Trustees’ farm properties, programs, enterprises, and events to increase engagement and drive visitation, program participation, membership, earned revenue, and other forms of support. 
  • Create, produce, send, and track the performance of weekly CSA emails to shareholders for each farm, interfacing with farm and engagement teams to ensure that content is fresh, relevant, and accurate. 
  • Work closely with property teams and the statewide Social Media & Digital Content Manager to coordinate content for property and statewide social media accounts. 
  • Contribute agricultural articles and content to Special Places magazine, Trustees’ Annual Report, website, statewide blog, emails, and other owned channels.  
  • Manage and execute press strategies for agricultural enterprises, programs, events, and initiatives at the farm properties as well as for Mobile Market and other key agricultural and related initiatives. 
  • Create and execute marketing plans for the agricultural properties and initiatives, working closely with Trustees’ design and marketing team. 
  • Manage marketing efforts through agricultural and broad-based publications, and coordinate digital, print, radio, and other advertising for agricultural priorities with Central Marketing. 
  • In coordination with the Director of PR, invite and manage press on site, including planning and managing press and influencer tours and events. 
  • Working closely with teams at each property, ensure the smooth flow of content and communication between property, agriculture, and and central marketing teams. 
  • Serve as creative director for photography for agricultural programs and initiatives, and oversee social photography for development events. 
  • Create and maintain calendar for key agricultural programs, including festivals and development events, and feed to statewide Marketing & Communications and PR teams (spending 1-2 days/week at the farms on the North and South Shores, and in metro west Boston may be needed). 
  • Maintain press database lists for all agricultural press (local, regional, and national). 
  • Maintain and update editorial calendar for press opportunities. 
  • Monitor performance of all agricultural marketing and provide reports and summaries of all activities and outcomes.

Level of Language Proficiency

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and strategist with excellent writing skills and knowledge of standard marketing and public relations channels. The manager should be technologically savvy, self-motivated, reliable, and flexible.  

 

Additional qualifications include: 

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, preferably within an agricultural or related field. 
  • Passion for agricultural engagement within a mission-driven, locally-sourced, sustainably-farmed context. 
  • Strong interest in building audience and constituency. Cultural awareness and appreciation for diverse audiences and commitment to engaging these audiences. 
  • Strong writing and editing skills. 
  • Expertise in creating digital media strategies and communications.  
  • Deep knowledge of one or more of the following and the ability to learn: all social media platforms, photography editing, and video production.  
  • Working knowledge or ability to learn and operate email systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage many deadlines, projects, and relationships. 
  • Familiarity and understanding of communications strategy and best practices. 
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software applications. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to manage relationships across geographic distances and through a matrixed management structure.  
  • Strong analytic and organizational skills, including the ability to manage projects and workflow while using time and resources effectively.
