Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women, offers emergency and long-term assistance to women who have nowhere else to turn. Founded in 1974, Rosie’s Place welcomes each guest with respect and unconditional love. Rosie’s Place accepts no government funds, and relies instead on committed volunteers and private supporters to accomplish its effective and innovative work.


HOURS:

Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm


OBJECTIVE:

Half of this position will entail providing one-to-one advocacy, information, and referral to appropriate resources, consistent with Rosie’s Place mission, philosophy, and policies. The other half of the position will be coordinating daily activities and operations of clothing and in-kind donations to Rosie’s Place. Support the Advocacy Team in achieving its’ mission, to provide capable, effective and compassionate advocacy and support to all women who request it.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Advocacy:

o  Support guests by helping meet their needs as individually identified by them. Encourage self-sufficiency, responsibility, and independence.

o  Meet with Rosie’s Place guests one-on-one, and provide assistance with accessing services, resources and referrals for needs such as: transportation, emergency clothes, food pantries, DTA and other governmental offices, emergency shelter, housing and other community resources. Provide information and referrals to services offered on-site, by both Rosie’s Place programs and other allied partners.

o  Maintain an up-to-date understanding of community resources as well as current regulations and requirements for obtaining public benefits, housing and other services.

o  Assess and assist guests in prioritizing their needs and forming realistic action plans.

o  Maintain accurate guest records in our electronic database. Ensure confidentiality when handling all aspects of guests’ information.

o  Maintain high level of knowledge about current guests.

o  Participate in weekly program meetings, as well as monthly staff meetings.

o  Intervene in crises or emergencies in a dignified and respectful manner.

o  Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Advocacy Manager.


·        Donations:

o  Open and sort donations of clothing and miscellaneous items; assess items according to need and condition.

o  Stock emergency closets, and ensure the cleanliness and organization of the area.

o  Stock front desk cabinet with underwear’s and socks as needed.

o  Prepare excess clothing for removal by the Garment District or other vendor.

o  Oversee operations and volunteers to sort and stock clothing.

o  Complete donor receipts upon request.

o  Complete ordering and purchasing for items as needed. Track spending within clothing budget line.


·        Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Advocacy Manager or Assistant Manager.

·        Report directly to the Assistant Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bilingual strongly preferred but not required.

·        Bachelor’s degree in Human or 2 years of experience in the field.

·        Minimum two years experience in counseling and/or advocacy.

  • Experience with crisis intervention regarding homelessness, mental health, and/or substance abuse.

·        Understanding of and commitment to addressing issues affecting poor and homeless women.

·        Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.

·        Proven ability to work flexibly and creatively within a highly stressful and challenging environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

·        Day-to-day work includes paper and computer work as well as interaction with staff, guests, and volunteers.

·        Ability to lift 40 plus pounds.

·        Periods of frequent, sitting, walking; moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly moving from one work site to another.


POSITION SALARY: $38,000-$42,000
