Instructional Coach

The Instructional Coach is responsible for providing coaching and feedback to mentors and residents and ensuring that all residents are well-prepared to meet the needs of their students and community. This includes facilitating weekly practice of key skills and competencies and ensuring that the residency coursework is brought to life in the clinical experience. The Instructional Coach reports to and works closely with the Director of Resident Coaching to ensure that all students in St. Louis have access to a high-quality, well-prepared teacher.


Position Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with training site principals and school leadership.
  • Frequently visit and observe mentors and residents in the classroom and during coaching and feedback sessions.
  • Supervise residents and mentors at training sites to ensure a productive mentoring relationship and learning environment.
  • Facilitate collaborative conversations with residents and mentors to discuss resident performance, progress, and needs.
  • Conduct resident performance assessments.
  • Discuss and analyze resident and mentor performance data to inform instructional coaching and improve program design.
  • Provide constructive, data-based feedback to residents and mentors to promote continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate sharing of best practices across resident and mentor cohort.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly practice sessions with residents, focused on high-leverage skills and competencies.
  • Facilitate content-specific residency coursework and professional development.

  • Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically relating to race class, and gender; ability to engage in and facilitate discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Openness to receive feedback on issues that will facilitate professional growth.
  • Experience working with at-risk, urban student populations required
  • Experience in instructional coaching and management of high performing teams preferred.
