Software engineer

AdoptUSKids is a national project that promotes adoption from foster care, connects families with children and youth seeking permanency, and supports child welfare systems across the United States. Based in Seattle at Northwest Resource Associates, the AdoptUSKids digital media team builds and maintains award-winning websites and applications to support this project’s lifechanging work.

We are looking for a software engineer to join our team and bring our applications to the next level. There will be lots of opportunity to learn on the job as you partner with our senior software engineer to help oversee all technical aspects of digital product development and administration -- from managing our cloud servers, to creating business logic, to user interface development.

It is an exciting time at AdoptUSKids. We have a number of new software application projects on the horizon and we’re looking for a partner to help us dig into requirements and design inventive solutions. We hope that’s you!

Northwest Resource Associates is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from alumni of foster care and qualified individuals of every ability, age, gender identity and expression, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and veteran status.

You should be excited to apply if:

  • You’re a full-stack developer ready to roll up your sleeves to improve a tried-and-true software application built on a Microsoft stack with a .NET platform and SQL Server database.
  • You’d like to fully own your work through every phase of SDLC: requirement discovery, design, programming, quality assurance testing, and deployment.
  • You’d like to be supported by a dedicated team including a visual and interaction designer, UX strategist, technical support manager, content strategist, and senior software engineer.
  • You want to be an active participant in designing our web applications by bringing your ideas and insights.
  • You enjoy learning from others and sharing your own ideas and expertise, so that everyone is always improving and growing.
  • You champion user experience.
  • You’re committed to racial equity and inclusion.

Key responsibilities

  • Write clean, well-tested, and performant code for our websites and software applications in ASP.NET, C#, CSS, and jQuery.
  • Research and implement packaged solutions providing point functionality within web applications – for example, a live chat application or a rich text editor.
  • Support the cloud-based environment for IIS web server and SQL Server.
  • Design and maintain the development environment, including release-to-production procedures.

Your skills and experience

  • Strong logic and computer science fundamentals.
  • At least three years of relevant experience.
  • ASP.NET, C#, CSS, and jQuery development experience.
  • Experience building software systems that prioritize user experience.
  • Experience building and maintaining WordPress websites.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards and best practices.
  • Understanding of the best engineering practices for the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross functional team when needed.
  • Experience with the Agile development process.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
